De Dycker fighting 5th in 2012 MX1 World Championship‏

A cloudy and chilly Talkessel circuit hosted the 16th and final round of the 2012 MX1 World championship. Newly crowned Belgian motocross champion Ken De Dycker came home seventh and closes the series in fifth place overall.

Windy conditions greeted the world’s best motocross riders for Saturday’s qualifying race. De Dycker had a mid-pack start but he managed to find some good overtaking lines. By half race the former German GP winner circulated in sixth after passing wildcard rider Josh Coppins. Ken crossed the line in sixth as well. Allthough some sections of the Teutschenthal track and facilities had received a make-over prior to the event the fast and slippery terrain received mixed reviews from the riders. De Dycker had a decent jump from the gate in the opening moto. The ’9’ SX-F 450 made his way down after the start in tenth place. A good push from the factory KTM rider landed him a solid fifth. A hiccup in the third corner added some unwanted drama to Keeno’s second outing of the day. The 28-year old Belgian had to settle for tenth but that result did not refelect his speed. From dead last De Dycker rose to 19th at the end of the opening lap. In spite of the few overtaking opportunities Ken fought hard to gain the last valuable world championship points of the 2012 season. For all time’s sake De Dycker passed his former team mate Josh Coppins for 10th place and he finished just over one second behind Christophe Pourcel.

Ken De Dycker: "After more than a week of fighting illness I didn’t feel super fit. However both motos went reasonably well. Seventh overall and ten and five in the motos was not exactly great but it was in line with was to be expected under the given circumstances. Overtaking seemed harder than usual here on race day. Also my body still felt pretty beat-up because of the muscle and stomach aches. "
