Seattle,
WA.
(April 16, 2011) Over
the weekend DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha and the 52,683 fans
that visited Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington were greeted with
clear skies for the start up round of the Lites West AMA Supercross
Series after a long break. The day started out fairly well for #35
Kyle Cunningham who went out and set the 1st
quickest time, and #72 Nick Paluzzi put in the 11th
fastest Timed-qualifying lap.

The
night show began with both the rookie and Cunningham slated into Heat
race #2, Cunningham got the best of starts in the 2nd
position, but a horrible first lap sent him to 4th.
Just a tick behind, Paluzzi was 5th
and doing his best to adapt to the treacherous conditions. Quickly,
it was Cunningham showing his strength early on, setting the fastest
lap time while he clawed his way onto the leader’s rear wheel by
the checkers, and finished a close 2nd.
Also riding in a good fashion, Paluzzi remained consistent all the
way to the end, taking a 5th
place finish.

The 15
lap main event fired out of the gate, and once again Cunningham was
high up in the field, as well as Paluzzi after the first turn sitting
in 4th
and 10th.
Upfront, by the end of lap two Cunningham had secured 3rd and was
applying heavy pressure to the second spot. Once lap three was in
circulation, it was easy to see how strong Kyle was, his lines were
coming together perfectly and speed wasn’t an issue. As the race
played out on lap 6, Cunningham confidence kicked in, but a hidden
hole changed his near term plan, as it caused #35 to lose traction in
a turn and briefly crash. Once remounted in 7th,
the Yamaha pilot bolted taking the ridiculously treacherous track and
making it look easy. Meanwhile, after starting tenth and running
there for most of the main, Paluzzi had an unfortunate get off with
less than a few laps to go, which relegated him to 13th
on the night. With three laps remaining, Cunningham was still on the
charge and had made it to 5th.
Never settling, the strong willed Texan leaped up to 4th
on the closing lap of the race, and went on to finish there.
