DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Indianapolis SX Race Report

Indianapolis,
IN.
(March 12, 2011) 1The
AMA Supercross Series went off with a bang to a fan base exceeding
60,000 inside a newly designed stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana this
past Saturday night. Both classes had their exciting moments on the
track, with the series still in its eastward swing. DNA Shred Stix/
Star Racing/Yamaha came in and showcased their two East coast top
contenders, #25 Ryan Sipes, and rookie #533 Gannon Audette. The day
started out fairly well for the teammates as Sipes clocked in at 1st
and the determined Audette set the 8th
fastest Timed - Qualifying lap.

The
night show began with Heat race #1; Audette rocketed out to a good
beginning and tried to settle in. Racing up to his potential, Audette
kept himself in the mix holding inside the top five, with only a few
laps until the finish, the FMF backed rider found a pace that
eventually would bring him closer to the leaders. This allowed Gannon
to gain confidence as he maintained 5th, and more importantly he
avoided the LCQ unlike in previous rounds. Sipes slated into Heat
race #2, got the best of starts sitting 2nd
through turn one. Riding at his best, within three laps Sipes stalked
the leader, made a pass and began increasing his lead every single
lap. In doing so, Ryan went on to win his second Heat race of the
season.

The 15
lap main event fired out of the gate, and once again Sipes was high
up in the field, as well as Audette after the first turn sitting in
2nd
and 3rd. Unfortunately, at the end of lap one, Gannon went down to
the ground, setting the scenario for him to charge from 20th .
Upfront, by the end of lap one Sipes had secured 2nd
and was applying heavy pressure to the leader. Once laps started
being logged, it was easy to see how strong Ryan was, and on the
eighth lap the leader succumbed to the heat and crashed, handing 1st
to a man on a mission.
Now the leader, Sipes’ confidence kicked in, and he bolted taking
the technical track and making it look easy. Meanwhile, after
remounting with a big feat ahead of him, since Gannon was a great
length behind the main field in the early stages of the race. He very
methodically and quickly, by the halfway mark used the combination of
those two things stated, enabling him to capitalize on other
competitor’s mistakes. Lap eight saw the Yamaha pilot takeover
15th,
and then on the very next lap he made a clean pass into 13th.
At this point Sipes showed strength by finding his lines and
breaking away to a good couple second lead. With three laps
remaining, Audette was still on the charge and had made it to 12th.
Never settling, the rookie prodigy leaped up to 11th
in the closing stages of the race and went on to finish there. Back
to Sipes, who took his DNA Shred Stix Yamaha 250F through its paces
in the closing laps. Still riding solid as if he was a multi time
winner, Ryan blocked out some last lap attempts at passing him, and
successfully etched his name in the record books as a Supercross
winner!
