Atlanta,
GA.
(February 26, 2011)
The AMA Supercross Series entertained a near-sellout crowd of
69,517 Georgia fans who packed into
Atlanta’s Georgia Dome for one of the season’s finest races. DNA
Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha showed up eagerly awaiting to unleash
their two East coast contingents. The day started out fairly well for
#25 Ryan Sipes who went out and set the 1st
quickest time and #533 Gannon Audette put in the 8th
fastest Timed-qualifying lap.

The
night show began with the rookie Audette only making two laps of the
opening Heat race after crashing, and having to move on to the
dreaded LCQ. Sipes slated into Heat race #2, got the best of starts
and assumed the lead of the field within a few turns. This is when
the big highlight all began to come together. Riding at his best and
increasing his lead every single lap, Sipes rode flawless and was
uncontested. In doing so, Sipes went on to win his first Heat race of
the season. Racing unfortunately in the LCQ didn’t pan out for
Audette, as a fair start left him to come all the way up to a 4th
place finish which was two spots short of qualifying .

The
Lites East Main Event shot out of the gate, with the FMF backed Sipes
sitting 4th,
and with the poise of good things to come. On lap three, Sipes had
settled into the pace and began picking up some time which left him
racing for a top three position. It was clear he was not done by any
means, but on the eleventh lap Ryan lost his wheels and suffered a
minor crash. Now relegated back to the 6th
spot, Sipes worked hard to salvage what he could. With the closing
lap in progress, the veteran kept digging deep and made his way into
5th.
From there the Yamaha pilot would go on to finish out there in 5th,
the frustration could be felt by Sipes and he was truly angry with
missing out on podium finish.
