DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing Freestone race report

At the second round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, TX, DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing rider Josh Grant led the charge again for his team during the Freestone National on Saturday finishing fifth overall after a pair of sixth and fourth place 450 class Moto finishes to cap off another respectable weekend for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team. His teammate Kyle Chisholm finished 19th overall with a pair of 30th and 12th place finishes.

Leading up to the two 450 class Motos, Grant finished his Group A first qualifying practice sixth fastest with a lap time of 2:01.685. Chisholm, who was also in Group A finished his first qualifying practice 11th fastest with a lap time of 2:03.478. In the final Group A qualifying session Grant found a line that allowed him to pick up some time and speed as he laid down the second quickest lap with a time of 2:01.114. Chisholm ended the final session 18th quickest with a lap time of 2:04.851.

Their combined times from both qualifying practices would put Grant and Chisholm third and 12th fastest overall headed into the first 450 class Moto. In the first 450 class Moto, Grant fell in line fourth after the holeshot and would hold that spot in the early laps until Jake Weimer and Mike Alessi were able to get around Grant where he would settle into the sixth spot until the checkered flag waved. Chisholm came out of the holeshot in the 15th position but unfortunately would drop back to 30th in the closing laps. In the second 450 class Moto, Grant settled into the 10th position after the holeshot and two laps later climbed to eighth where he would remain until the closing laps when he managed to pick off several more spots to take over fourth. Chisholm rebounded from the first Moto and rode to a top-15 finish crossing the finish line 12th.

Grant’s pair of sixth and fourth place finishes moves him up to sixth overall in the championship standings with 58 points. Chisholm’s pair of 30th and 12th place finishes puts him 13th overall with 29 points. Up next for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team is Round 3 at Thunder Valley in Lakewood, Colo. On June 2.
