$5,000 and Toyota Tundra on the Line for Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout

AURORA, Ill. (April 28, 2008) – This weekend’s Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium will crown the 2008 AMA Supercross class champion as well as the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout winner. Team San Manuel Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., holds a 10-point lead over Torco Fuels Honda’s Kevin Windham, of Centerville, Miss., as the championship heads into the final race of the season.

The pre-race press conference will be broadcast live on Supercross LIVE! (www.supercrossonline.com) Friday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. PST, featuring the top three AMA Supercross class riders, Reed, Windham and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps respectively and the Regional AMA Supercross Lites class champions Jason Lawrence and Trey Canard.

Fans can enjoy kids supervalue seats at half price and adults can save big too when they pick up their $5 adult discount coupons from participating Las Vegas area Rebel Oil Gas and Convenience stores and participating Terrible Herbst Locations.

Windham, who has four wins on the season, moved within 10 points of championship leader Reed with an impressive win in Seattle last weekend. This weekend the season’s championship will be decided between these two world-class competitors at Sam Boyd Stadium. Reed has eight wins on the season but is struggling with a shoulder injury to hold onto his points lead.

Last weekend in Seattle, Windham, who was leading the race, suffered a mechanical malfunction when a banner got tied up in his back wheel. He stopped his bike and removed the banner from the rear wheel, dropping back to sixth place. Windham charged back through the field and re-captured the lead on lap 17. Reed charged his way to second place with a last-lap pass on Short.

“We are going into Las Vegas with high hopes, and I hope lady luck is with me,” said Windham. “It has been a great year for me. The closer this championship gets to the end, the hungrier I get, so this weekend will be a big race for me. I am fired up right now!”

Reed crashed in the main event last Saturday night and worked his way into second place with an inspiring ride. The finished helped cushion the points lead.

“I ran into the back of Millsaps in the first turn,” said Reed following last week’s race. “I tried to come through the pack and be smart. There is another race and another opportunity next weekend in Las Vegas. I can’t wait until next week. I showed tonight that I want to win this championship more than anyone.”

The top AMA Supercross Lites class riders will square off in the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout. The Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout pits the top AMA Supercross Lites class riders in each region, East/West, against one another in a 15-lap one-night race for bragging rights in this best–of-the-best competition. The winner of the race will be awarded $5,000 and a 2008 Toyota Tundra truck

In last year’s Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, a rookie in the class, won the main event, beating regional AMA Supercross Lites class champions Villopoto and Ben Townley. In AMA Supercross class finals at Sam Boyd Stadium, Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., put an exclamation point on his AMA Supercross championship winning his 13th race of the season.

The first AMA Supercross class race was held at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, March 17, 1990, and Jeff Matiasevich won main event. Jeremy McGrath won the AMA Supercross Lites class race that same evening. McGrath won three consecutive Lites class races before moving to the premier class where he won four main events. In addition to his seven supercross championships, McGrath is first on the all-time win list in both the AMA Supercross class and AMA Supercross Lites class.

The AMA Supercross class will air on SPEED Sunday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m., and the AMA Supercross Lites class race will air on SPEED Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m. CBS Sports will air a season-end recap show Sunday, May 4 at Noon EST.
