Cernics Kawasaki finishes in the Top Ten at Atlanta

Riverside, CA (February 25, 2007) – In front of 70,649 spectators in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, Cernics Kawasaki’s Jeff Gibson rode to a tenth place finish.  Teammate Paul Carpenter suffered a violent crash in the Supercross main event and his bike was too damaged to continue.  He would eventually finish in 20th position while Gibson’s finish continues the team’s top-ten streak at six races.

“I got a good start and a couple of guys fell in front of me.  I went around them but made a few small mistakes and let a couple of other riders get by me,” commented Gibson.  “However, I know I can run better and finish in the top five.  I just have to go out and get a good start and not make those little mistakes.”

“The main event was tough because I was at the back of a large group of about five or six riders.  I was following them but the pace was really slow since the first guy was slowing us up real bad,” commented Carpenter.  “I didn’t want to follow everyone through the whoop section so I went to the right side and just caught the last whoop the wrong way.  It kicked me pretty hard and threw me into the face of the next set of jumps and totally wrecked my bike.”

“Jeff has been working real hard for the past few weeks so it is nice to see him in the top ten again,” team manager Derek Sorenson remarked.  “It was tough to see Paul go down so hard especially since tonight was a great opportunity to move into the overall top ten.  But those things happen sometimes and we’re glad to see that he’s OK.”

The Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO next week for round nine of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.
