Carmichael Dominant in Win at AMA Toyota Motocross Championship

Grant Wins AMA Motocross Lites at Kawasaki/Monster Energy High Point National

MT. MORRIS, Pa. (May 27, 2007) – Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., picked up his second win of the season and 98th AMA Motocross win of his career at the Kawasaki/Monster Energy High Point National, round two of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, presented by FMF. Honda’s Josh Grant, of Riverside, won in AMA Motocross Lites.

Carmichael’s victory also marked the eighth win of his career at the popular Mt. Morris track and the 146th of his illustrious career, further cementing his position as the sport’s “Greatest Of All Time,” a nickname and a physical description as he continues his retirement season.

“This one is special, especially racing James like this,” said Carmichael. “I like this place and I love the dirt here. The track was a little on the difficult side. It was tough to pass and tough to change lines. The fans here have been very good to me.”

On this day, Carmichael proved too much for Kawasaki’s James Stewart, who led the first half of the first moto but couldn’t match Carmichael’s speed in a runaway in moto two. Carmichael cruised to the easy win in the second moto for a 1-1 moto sweep. Stewart was second (2-2) and Honda’s Davi Millsaps, of Cairo, Ga., was third with a 4-3 finish.

After Stewart narrowly won the first moto, Carmichael showed the determination that has made him the sport’s all-time winner, walking away with the second moto win and the overall victory, the 14711th of his career and seventh overall at Hangtown.

The AMA Motocross Lites win was the second of Grant’s career and stopped the Kawasaki freight train that has been headed by Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley, who split wins at last week’s season opener. Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., finished second (2-2) while Townley rebounded from a crash in the first moto to finish to finish third with a 10-1.

The AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, presented by FMF, will take a one-week break before heading north to Massachusetts on June 9-10 for the Mototees Southwick National, presented by Scott USA.
