A new face will emerge under the
JDR Motorex KTM this weekend during the penultimate round of the Rockstar
Energy Drink MX Nationals at Moree on 24 July, the team calling in Louis
Calvin for the season’s remainder.
Western Australian standout Calvin, 21, will stand in on
the team’s factory KTM 350 SX-F in the Pro Open category in place of
team regulars Dan Reardon and Ryan Marmont, both who have been forced out
through injury.
Marmont has been
off the bike since the midway point of the season after undergoing foot
surgery, while 2007 champion teammate Reardon has also opted out in a bid
to regain 100 percent fitness with a niggling wrist injury.
“We’ve brought in Louis to ride the 350
in the Open class for this weekend, a logical choice considering his
success through the year as a privateer for KTM,” JDR Motorex KTM
team manager Danny Ham said. “We’re welcoming him to the team
at Moree and the Lites riders are all looking to continue their great form
as well.”
Calvin said
it’s the greatest opportunity of his career, a reward for his efforts
so far this season while riding for the Herb Watson Racing KTM team. Calvin
currently sits a solid ninth in the standings as top privateer and looks
forward to his factory debut.
“It’s definitely the best opportunity of my
life in motocross and I’ve been working hard all year to get the best
out of myself,” Calvin commented. “Now I’ve got the
chance to race with the factory team and I’m excited to see what the
package brings.
“I’m
confident I’ll be able to adjust quickly to the factory bike and the
team will put a setting into the bike that they think will be good for me.
We plan to ride on Friday, so hopefully I can get at least half a day in on
the bike and be comfortable come race day.”
Runaway Pro Lites title leader Matt Moss, the 23-year-old
New South Welshman on track to add this year’s title to the one he
won in 2009, spearheads JDR Motorex KTM’s Lites contenders. Moss
enjoys a 58-point lead in the standings with two rounds to run, using
recent time off to recover from a shoulder injury.
“I’m looking forward to Moree, I’ve never
raced there before, so we just want to win this championship and grab that
number one plate,” Moss explained. “I just need to get back to
riding the way I was, with no mistakes and injury-free.”
Moss will once again be joined on the 250
SX-F by two of Australia’s brightest rising stars in Brenden Harrison
and Josh Cachia, the current national Under 19s champion in his rookie Pro
Lites campaign.
Harrison currently
sits fifth in the Pro Lites standings, while Cachia is three positions back
in eighth. Both have finished on the podium in 2011 and will look to repeat
that form at Moree on Sunday.
Round
eight of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, Australian Motocross
Championship, will take place at Moree in NSW this weekend on Sunday, 24
July.
