Press Release

California Fanzone Invaded By Metal Mulisha During The Auto Club 500

San Bernardino County, February 15, 2007 ---The unmistakable crack of dirt bikes firing up followed by the heart stopping rumble of engines will kick off the freestyle motocross show presented by four California natives -the Metal Mulisha - who will perform for NASCAR race fans in the Opportunity, California FanZone during the Auto Club 500 weekend February 23-25.

Brian Deegan, the Metal Mulisha co-founder and one of the most influential riders of freestyle motocross, will be doing a jump demo a long with other Metal Mulisha superstars, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Jeff “Ox” Karagola, and Todd Potter.

Even though Deegan suffered from major injuries at both Winter X-Games in 2004 and 2005, he continues to redefine the sport he helped pioneer. Deegan has collected more X-Games and gravity games metals than any other competitor, appeared on the cover of Racer X Illustrated, Transworld Motocross, Free rider MX, and several other major publications. Despite all his success this motocross soldier has accumulated more x-rays, pins, plates, casts, gashes, and screws than most freestyle motocross riders. Prior to the Auto Club 500 Deegan will spend the weekend in Australia participating in the St. Kilda Fest.

Respected by his peers for being one of the most naturally skilled riders in FMX Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg is the king of step-up. He makes the most technical moves look easy. A few highlights of Twitch’s career include winning the 1999 Triple Crown in his hometown of San Diego, the 1999 LXD Freeride Championships in Las Vegas, winning a medal at the 2001 X-Games for step-up, and the 2004 Triple Crown Freestyle event.

Along side Deegan and Twitch will ride the Ox and Todd Potter. Ox, one of the youngest riders in FMX, is known for his back flips and is believed by many to be the “next big thing” member of Metal Mulisha. When asked about his career Ox stated, “It’s what I love to do and if I can get paid for doing what I love, then I’ll do it every bit as long as I possibly can.” You may have recently seen Ox showing off some of his tricks dressed up as a chicken in the “Spicy” Burger King Commercial.

Metal Mulisha will not be the only entertainment making noise in the FanZone. A Sea Lion Exhibit will be set up by the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and is a part of the S.L.E.W.T.H. (Science, Learning, and Experimenting with the Help of Sea Lions) program.  The Sea Lions have been featured on several nationally broadcast programs, including National Geographic: Explore, Dateline NBC, and networks such as BBC and CNN.

Race Fans can be a part of the all-new Opportunity, California FanZone. Opportunity, California FanZone is a multi-million dollar facility enhancement including delicious food at Apex by Wolfgang Puck, the Speedway’s official retail store called Impulse, amazing sounds of live bands at the entertainment stage, and shade and leisure areas that have nearly doubled in size.
