Cairoli and Paulin win in Lierop-Musquin takes MX2 Title with second overal

LIEROP
(THE NETHERLANDS), 5 September 2010 – Marvin Musquin finished
second overall in the Benelux Grand Prix but was crowned the 2010 FIM
MX2 World Champion already after the first heat thanks partly to
Roczen’s misfortune, pulling out of the opening moto. The Grand
Prix victory went on hands of his compatriot Gautier Paulin. In MX1
Antonio Cairoli struggled a little bit on the Dutch track but managed
to clinch the overall victory and continues breaking records in the
History of the sport.

Antonio Cairoli had to work really
hard to be at the top of the podium as things were not easy for the
Italian in any of both races. Second overall was his team-mate Max
Nagl and completing the rostrum was Belgian Steve Ramon. Rui
Gonçalves finished fourth with a seventh and a second place in
today's heats and fifth was Italian David Philippaerts.

In
MX2 Gautier Paulin obtained his so expected Grand Prix victory in an
almost perfect weekend. Marvin Musquin became the 2010 FIM MX2 World
Champion after race one as his archrival Ken Roczen could not finish
the race due to a mechanical problem in his Suzuki machine. Third
overall was Belgian Joel Roelants followed by Shaun Simpson and Harri
Kullas respectively.

Mats Nilsson experienced an
excellent weekend in Lierop winning both heats and being also
proclaimed the 2010 FIM Veterans World Cup winner. Second overall was
Klaas Hofstede and third was Hans Berendsen.

MX1

Red
Bull KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Cairoli added one more GP victory in
his records and he is now just two victories away from Motocross
legend Eric Geboers. The Italian did not have a good start in the
first race in Lierop and had to start from the 27th position after
crashing with his compatriot Philippaerts. Cairoli bumped into
Philippaerts, who had previously crashed in front of Cairoli, and had
to give all his best to finish second after his team-mate Nagl.
Cairoli admitted that it was not an easy recovery and he actually
crashed again while trying to pass the whole bunch of MX1 riders. In
the second heat the Italian took the holeshot from the outside and
got the lead until the chequered flag finishing almost 30 seconds
before his team-mate Gonçalves.

Other Red Bull KTM
Factory Racing MX1 rider Nagl was up on the second step of the podium
after winning the first heat and getting a fourth place in the second
one. The German dominated the first moto from beginning to end,
marking his comeback to victory after Bellpuig. Though he could not
repeat his performance in the second race and could be just fourth.
Nagl expressed his satisfaction to be back on the podium and to be
just ten points behind third in the Championship
Philippaerts.

Third overall was Rockstar Teka Suzuki
World MX1's Ramon, who admitted how much he struggled to be back
again riding with the leading riders. The Belgian is still recovering
from a leg injury and has still some difficulties to find his speed
and keep the rhythm until the end of the 35 minutes and two laps.
Ramon kept his fifth position in the Championship and he is now 15
points away from Nagl.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing MX1's
Gonçalves obtained a well deserved fourth position after being
seventh and second in today's races. The Portuguese was second
overall last year in the MX2 class and he actually showed how much he
likes this track starring in a superb second heat. Gonçalves
improved one position in the points standings and is now eleventh, 23
points away from Guarneri.

Yamaha Monster Energy
Motocross' Philippaerts completed the top five after a double fifth
position in the races. The Italian crashed several times in the races
and was not really satisfied with his results. Philippaerts is still
third in the Championship, but will have to do a good performance at
his home GP in Fermo if he wants to keep such position.

Tanel
Leok finished sixth overall after a solid fourth position in the
first heat and just a seventh place in the second one. Following the
Estonian in the overall classification was home rider De Reuver, who
rode in the third position during the first eight laps of the opening
moto but could not keep the rhythm of his rivals.

Italian
Guarneri was satisfied with his eighth overall position as he knows
that he always struggles in the sand. Desalle experienced a really
tough weekend, after breaking two teeth in yesterday’s qualifying
race and damaging badly his lower lip. The Belgian crashed again in
today's heats as well but he achieved an overall ninth position
despite fighting the pain in his neck and lip.

Completing
the top ten was Coppins in what it might have been the penultimate GP
of his racing career.
De Dycker ended a disappointing 12th
after pulling out of the second moto while Kawasaki Racing had again
another hard weekend with Barragan, Pourcel and Boog all missing the
top ten.

Australian Ferris made his return to the GP scene
after his debut at Teutschenthal and took an eventual 35th position,
confirming the fact Lierop is one of the hardest tracks to ride
on.

MX2

Yamaha
Monster Energy Motocross' Paulin obtained his maiden Grand Prix
victory of the season on the demanding track of Lierop. The French
won the first heat and starred in an incredible fight with his
compatriot Musquin, where he could only finish third. For the French
the season started four GP’s after the rest of his rivals as he was
recovering from an injury and he was waiting for his overall victory
since his first appearance in the series in Bellpuig. Paulin is
looking forward to Fermo in order to prove everybody that his GP
victory this weekend did not happen by chance.

Red Bull
KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Musquin could only be second overall this
weekend but he was extremely happy after becoming the new 2010 FIM
MX2 World Champion at the end of heat one already. The 20 year old
French rider added his second consecutive MX2 World Title in his
records before taking part to the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of
Nations. Musquin admitted that he struggled a lot this weekend in
Lierop, but he was really satisfied with his second overall position
and of course with his new MX2 World Title.

Third
overall was Nestaan JM Racing KTM' Roelants who expressed his
disappointment for not being higher up in the podium. It was the
third podium for the Belgian this season and he is now willing to
race in Fermo next weekend and try to obtain his maiden GP victory.
Roelants was one of the most consistent MX2 riders of the weekend
finishing second and fourth in the races and he is now sixth in the
Championship just two points behind Osborne.

Red Bull
KTM Factory Racing MX2's Simpson was fourth overall thanks to his
solid first race, where he finished fourth after a really good start,
and his seventh position in the second moto. The Brit is still
seventh in the Championship but he has many chances of entering the
top three in the last GP of the season in Fermo.

Yamaha
Gariboldi Monster Energy's Kullas completed the top five with a
seventh and fifth position in the races. The Finnish starred in an
incredible start in the second heat, where he was riding second in
the opening lap, but he felt the pressure of eventual GP winner
Paulin, Roelants and Roczen who could already pass him by the end of
the first lap. Kullas is currently tenth in the points
standings.

Sixth overall was Tonus, who did an excellent
first race finishing sixth and being eighth in the second one. His
team-mate Roczen could only be seventh this weekend due to a DNF in
race one after his Suzuki’s chain broke when he was leading the
heat with superb authority. It seems like Suzuki's misfortune after
Brazil was not over, as Roczen handed the Title to Musquin in the
same way Desalle did to Cairoli in Campo Grande. Roczen, instead,
showed his incredible potential on his Suzuki machine striking the
victory in the second race.

Osborne was eighth overall
in Lierop after being eleventh in the first heat and obtaining a
decent sixth position in the second one. The American will have to do
a good performance in Fermo if he wants to keep his fifth position in
the Championship as Roelants is just two points behind him.

Teillet
did not a really consistent GP but he managed to finish ninth overall
after being twelfth and ninth in the races. Nicholls completed the
top ten.

Frossard had a dnf in race two and dropped down to
13th while Kawasaki CLS team mate Van Horebeek struggled with illness
and was an eventual 17th.
