CARLSBAD,
Calif.—SPY® MX rider and reigning FIM World Motocross
Champion Tony Cairoli kicked-off his campaign for a sixth world
championship title with a win at the first race of the season in
Valkenswaard, Netherlands, this week.
Cairoli rode rode his KTM 350SX-F to two moto wins, showing poise and class that
Marcello Mastroianni would
be proud of, as he increased his lead on the field in each successive lap.
"I
just rode a smart race with not so many mistakes," said Cairoli. "I had
a good speed and fitness level, so everything was good to take the win.
Riding in the sand is just fun
for me and I don't really get tired. Now I look forward to see what my
speed is like on the hard pack."
Cairoli’s
first FIM world championship came in 2005 and he repeated the feat
again in 2007. He jumped up a class and rode to his first MX1-GP FIM
Motocross World Championship in
2009 and successfully defended his crown in 2010 and 2011 as a Red Bull
KTM Factory Racing rider.
Cairoli
will defend his world championship title in 2012 with clear vision in his signature goggle, the
SPY + Tony Cairoli Whip™.
In
the women’s division at Valkenswaard, SPY’s Chiara Fontanesi dominated
both pro women’s motos and took the overall win. She finished second in
the FIM Women’s Motocross World
Championship last season, a result she looks to improve upon this year.
“I
am so happy to be with SPY and I feel ready to challenge for the win at
each race,” says Fontanesi, who inaugurated her relationship with SPY
this month. “My main goal is to
win the world title and get as many race wins as I can in the process.”
