CMRC: New Stipulations for Manufacturers’ Series Purse and Contingency for Pro Nationals

It will be mandatory for Canadian residents to race a Canadian purchased motocross competition bike if they wish to be eligible for the series purse or manufacturer contingency funds awarded at the completion of CMRC’s 2008 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

U.S. residents may compete in the series on a U.S. purchased bike but will only be eligible for the series end purse. They will not qualify for contingency posted by the Canadian manufacturers. If a U.S. resident competes on a Canadian purchased machine they will be eligible for both the series purse and contingency.

This new policy was recently implemented by the five motorcycle manufacturers that have a vested interest in motocross racing in Canada (Honda Canada, Canadian Kawasaki, KTM North America, Suzuki Canada & Yamaha Motor Canada).

Amateur riders throughout the country should take note that they too will only qualify for manufacturer contingency posted for all regional and/or provincial events provided they have purchased a motorcycle in Canada.

The manufacturers generate funds to support the sport from sales through their dealer network across the country. If their revenue drops due to a decline in sales (ie. cross-border purchases) the result may be a cutback in support /sponsorship at all levels within the racing community.
