Press Release

Brooks / Townley / Wey / Brayton / Weege / Stroupe on DMXS Tonight!

The first Supercross race of 2008 is in the books and the sport officially begins its post-RC era. The rain held off just long enough for the checkered flag to fly in spite of the Armageddon-like forecasts leading up to last weekend. I was putting sand bags around my hotel room door, and I was on the 7th floor, after hearing about the worst storm since Brad Lackey rode a factory bike. In the end, the weather-guessers got it wrong, but nobody was complaining.....especially the riders. We now head to Phoenix where the track is guaranteed to be dry and some are already looking for a little redemption.

San Manuel/L&M Racing/Yamaha’s Chad Reed let his ride do the talking at Anaheim 1, and scoffed at being written-off for the umpteenth time in his career. It takes all kinds and Reed is not apologizing for being different. Larry Brooks knew that when he hired the Australian last year, but that has not stopped fans from taking cheap shots at his franchise-player. Larry will join us tonight to cover last week’s race and where his team stands in its second year and whatever else comes up.

Honda Red Bull’s Ben Townley limped to the microphone on crutches at A1's pre-race press conference, and the disappointment was evident in his face. BT had a great season last year winning the East Coast Lites title and giving Villopoto all he could handle outdoors. Unfortunately, he injured his flipper while testing with Honda and his return date is yet unknown. We wanted to get Ben on and let his fans hear for themselves what the latest news is for the lovable Kiwi.

MDK/KTM’s Justin Brayton don’t need no stinkin’ linkage. The pumpkin pilot turned plenty of heads with a podium aboard his brand-new ride for 2008. Justin has always shown the speed, but finally has the equipment to display it on. He is a cool kid and well-spoken and we wanted to give him some love and introduce him to his many new fans.

Another orange crush switch this year involved our very own Nick Wey. Tricky has been on so many times that he is basically part of the show. We always love to catch up with Dewitt’s finest citizen and he will break down the race as only he can.

We have known Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe for many years and have watched his ascent into the pros with great interest. The young prodigy was hand-picked by Mitch Payton for one of the most coveted rides in our sport and he is making the most of it. Austin is coming off an injury, but still brought home an impressive top-five last week in his first professional SX. We will hear what the jump to the pros has been like and ask if we can have his bike after the season is over.

Live Nation/Can-Am GNCC/M&Ms/Pringles/Summer’s Eve/New Balance/Jeep/SubaruRacer X’s Jason Weigandt was on hand for every lap of practice and racing and we will hear his take on the storm that never came, but the surprising results that did. Weege and Jim Holley do such a great job that I listen to their broadcast while sitting 30 feet from them in the Press Box. If you can’t make it to the race, be sure to listen live at www.supercrossonline.com, and check out the myriad of updated videos from the race as well.

Godspeed, Gary Gracyk. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gavin and his family.
