Blazusiak takes 21-pt lead into Vegas EX finals‏

The Polish off-road legend brings a 21-point lead into Vegas’ GEICO EnduroCross finals Sat.

IRVINE, Calif., (Nov. 18, 2010) – Through the first four rounds of 2010 GEICO AMA EnduroCross, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak
– the defending ’09 EX champ – was perfect. Wins at the Las Vegas
opener, Guthrie, Indianapolis and Everett, gave Blazusiak a seemingly
insurmountable points lead in pursuit of his title defense.

But proving Blazusiak’s human was Colorado’s Geoff Aaron,
winning Round Five of GEICO EnduroCross at his hometown track of Denver
last month. Aaron had been highly consistent himself on the EnduroCross
tour, running second to Blazusiak in three of the previous four
contests. The end result of Aaron’s effort means we still have a points
chase for Vegas – albeit slim – with Blazusiak enjoying a 21-point
lead, 136-115, over Aaron heading into Saturday night’s action at the
Orleans.

“Taddy’s worked awfully hard this season and deserves to be in the position he’s in,” noted Mike
Karsting, VP of Events for Source Interlink Media. “There’s 30 points
at stake for the winner of Saturday’s main event – so Geoff’s still got
a mathematical shot at this.

“And his odds only become greater when you factor in the past history of GEICO EnduroCross.”

From
championships being ripped from one’s grasp in one race (Damon Huffman,
Columbus, Ohio, ’08), to Blazusiak himself losing $50,000 in Las Vegas
last year when he couldn’t lock down the final victory of GEICO’s
Triple Crown of EnduroCross – an attractive bounty that was never
claimed in the three-year history of the contest.

But Blazusiak – along with all the GEICO EnduroCross competitors all the way down to 21st place – all shared the richest purse this year in the history of EnduroCross with the new GEICO Travel Dollars program, which paid cash money all the way down through the standings to the 12th place finisher in the LCQ, which is effectively the 21st
position for the event. So in addition to the already over $10,000 up
for grabs in purse money at each event, GEICO kicked down with an added
$3,000 in cash prize money that goes to the non-podium, non-factory
racers in the main event and LCQ.

“It
was a banner year for the rider purse in GEICO EnduroCross,” added
Karsting. “We wish all the competitors the best of luck this weekend
and look forward to the action involved with what we feel is the most
thrilling and competitive form of indoor two-wheel motorsport racing on
the planet.”
