Bel-Ray Race Report Daytona SX

Round 9 of the Monster Energy Supercross series took place on Saturday night,
March 5th, at the world famous Daytona International Speedway. The Bel-Ray
backed teams of Two Two Motorsports and Dodge/ Hart & Huntington Racing
were both in attendance, as were 3 of Bel-Ray’s Elite support riders
competing in the Lites and 450 classes.

Timed qualifying started off well on the demanding track, designed by Ricky
Carmichael, with Two Two Motorsports’, Chad Reed setting the 3rd fastest
time with a 1:16:613, followed by Dodge / Hart and Huntington teammates Chris
Blose in 12th with a 1:18:454 and Ivan Tedesco in 14th with a 1:19:082. Elite
support racer, Steve Roman, was 44th fastest with a 1:26:090 time.  Lites
qualifying had Bel-Ray backed Ronnie Stewart in 25th with a 1:22:231 and
Frankie Lettieri in 32nd with a 1:23:251.

Heat race action was successful yet again for the Bel-Ray backed teams. Tedesco
and Blose finished 4th and 5th in the first heat, while Reed was 4th in the
second heat, earning all Bel-Ray backed riders direct transfers to the main
event. The heats weren’t as kind to both Lites riders as both Stewart and
Lettieri missed the cut and didn’t make the main event.

The main event started with a bang as Blose got a great start and was running
inside the top 5. Reed and Tedesco weren’t as lucky as Reed, who started
around midpack and Tedesco found himself on the ground after tangling with
another rider. Reed started working his way through the pack after the leaders.
By the end of lap 2 he was in 5th, 3rd by lap number 7 and into 2nd halfway
into the race. That is where he would finish. After picking himself up off the
ground, Tedesco began his charge through the pack and would eventually work up
to 11th by the end of the main event. Blose stayed within the top 10 until the
halfway point, when he injured his ankle and was forced to retire from the
race.  The season points standing now have Reed in 3rd, just one point out
of second, while Tedesco sits in 11th and Blose in 15th as the series continues.

The series heads to the site of the 2012 Superbowl in Indianapolis this weekend
before heading back to Florida the following week.
