Press Release

Be A Rider Not A Risk Taker

Beautiful weather, check! Helmet, check! Protective gloves, check! Roaring engine, check! You are officially ready for the best ride of your life.

But are you ready for the worst?

Even though some riders may follow the appropriate safety measures, according to a recent study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, motorcycle accidents reached an all-time high in the United States, more than doubling between 1999 and 2008 and still on the rise.

When on the road we like to be carefree and not think of potential danger lying ahead. Neither did Dr. Larry Stern who, while on a motorcycle tour in Bhutan rounded a curve on a mountain and came face to face with an oncoming truck. Dr. Stern swerved in a split second attempt to avoid the truck, missed it but hit the ground hard on his side. He broke his ribcage instantly which made it painfully difficult to breathe, among other serious injuries. More than 7,000 miles away from his home in Minnesota, Dr. Stern faced medical evacuation charges of around $150,000 to return home.  Luckily, he had MedjetAssist to take care of him. As a member of the premier medical evacuation and repatriation service, he didn’t shell out a penny. His annual Medjet membership of $260 plus Motorcycle Protection for just an additional $35 was well worth the investment.

If a Medjet member is hospitalized more than 150 miles from home – virtually anywhere in the world – the company reviews his or her condition both with the attending medical staff and the Medjet physicians, and arranges for medical transport to the hospital of their choice.

As a bonus, with Medjet’s Motorcycle Protection program – which was designed with the input of motorcycle riders for motorcycle riders of all ages and levels - in the event of an emergency where the rider is unable to continue on their journey, or if the bike is unsafe to operate, Medjet will return the motorcycle to a shop of the member’s choice at no additional charge*.

We think such coverage is incredibly important and hope you agree it’s something to share with your readers. We find it astounding how many people are uneducated about medical evacuation programs, and think their credit card or regular travel insurance policy will undoubtedly cover them in case of emergency – which is not the case.  If you would be interested in speaking with Dr. Stern about his experience and/or Medjet’s president Roy Berger, we would be happy to arrange.
