Press Release

BTOSports.com / BBMX rider Michael Byrne Injury Update

Team BTOSports.com / BBMX rider Michael Byrne recently injured his wrist at the 2010 running of the Bercy SX on the first night of competition.  Byrne was on fire and looked very, very good on his new Palmetto Suzuki, unfortunately an early race crash on Friday night ended his weekend prematurely.  Original reports and rumors had Byrne sidelined with a broken wrist, which were in fact untrue.  Byrne did suffer a minor dislocation of his right wrist, but no broken bones, and after 24 hrs of consultations from top doctors in Paris, it was decided that minor surgery would help to heal his wrist both quickly and safely.

The surgery placed 3 small pins in Michael's wrist to stabilize the dislocation, and post surgery reports were very positive in terms of minimal ligament damage.  Byrne stayed in Paris for a few days to have the swelling drained and then hoped a plane back to FL on Tuesday.  Dr. Steve Augustine, of the Action Sports Medicine Foundation, will be caring for Michael's wrist back here in the states.

Thankfully for both Byrne and the BTOSports.com / BBMX team, it looks as if the pins will come out in 3 weeks and Byrne will return to riding and most likely return in full force at round 2 of the US SX series in Phoenix, AZ on Jan. 15th.  "It is a bummer for sure that Michael got hurt, but the injury could have been so much worse.  In the big picture, he will possibly miss Anaheim 1 and then will be back for Phoenix, that isn't bad at all.  Michael has been unbelievable to work with so far, and this is just a small bump in the road.  There are still 9 months with 28 races to go in the year after Anaheim 1, we have plenty of time to achieve all our goals together", says team owner Forrest Butler. The team and Michael still look forward to a very exciting and successful 2011 season in both SX and MX.
