BOBRYSHEV TOP HONDA AT GERMAN GRAND PRIX

FIM MX1 World Championship Round 8 -
Teutshcenthal, Germany

CAS Honda enjoyed a positive outing in
Teutschenthal this weekend for round eight of the FIM MX1 World
Championship with strong performances from Evgeny Bobryshev, who went
8-8 to finish seventh overall and top Honda rider, as well as Gareth
Swanepoel who found a return to form to finish tenth overall.

In
yesterday’s qualifying Bobryshev got a strong start and was in fifth
place by the end of the first lap. The Russian racer was battling for
fourth, which he then inherited when Ken de Dycker fell; a position he
held until the end of the 20-minute plus two-lap moto for his strongest
qualifying finish in his maiden MX1 season. Teammate Swanepoel was
eleventh after lap one and
rode a consistent race to finish tenth on the gate for today’s races.

Bobryshev
made a good start in the first race and was tenth after lap one, with
his teammate two places behind. The Russian racer rode aggressively and
attacked the super technical hardpack track to take up seventh on the
second lap, while Swanepoel moved up to tenth position.

Bobryshev
rode with no mistakes, just losing a single place in the closing stages
of the 35-minute plus two-lap moto to finish in a pleasing eighth place
aboard his CAS Honda CRF450R. Swanepoel was looking solid in tenth
place, when he made a small mistake four laps in and tipped off before
remounting in 14th place. The 25-year-old South African rode a solid
race, making up one place in the middle part of the moto and reached the
chequered flag in 13th position.

In race two Swanepoel stormed
out of the gate into fifth place with Bobryshev, who returns to form
after his triple win at Lyng
for the British Championship races last weekend, close behind in
seventh position. Swanepoel lost a lot of time in the opening stages,
while Bobryshev made headway into sixth position on lap two.

Five
laps in 22-year-old Bobryshev lost a couple of positions, but settled
into a good rhythm around the ultra-challenging German track, which had
become incredibly rutted and slick in places. The Russian racer was
pressuring Max Nagl in the final stages of the race, but despite his
efforts was unable to make a pass and finished in eighth place to secure
a superb seventh position overall, which maintains his top ten in the
championship standings.

Swanepoel had dropped back in the first
part of the race, but rode consistently to finish in tenth place and
tenth overall, which equals his best Grand Prix finish this season with a
return to fitness since he tweaked his ankle at the Glen Helen USA
Grand Prix a few weeks ago.

CAS Honda’s next
outing is in Kegums, Latvia next weekend for round nine of the FIM MX1
World Championship.

Evgeny Bobryshev #777: 8-8 = 7th Overall
“It
was an awesome day and I am happy with these results because the last
two GPs had not gone so well for me with DNF’s and bad finishes. I was
pretty sad after France because I had thrown away a lot of points, but
it is getting better again. The track was quite good but hard for
passing and if you pushed really hard then you could have a big crash.
There were big bumps and ruts, so it was not easy. When I was really
pushing hard my legs were off the bike each corner! In the second race I
really wanted to pass Nagl in the final part of the race but it was not
possible; overall though I am happy. We have some good points and
everything is positive for the next few races.”

Gareth
Swanepoel #8: 13-10 = 10th Overall

“I feel pretty good after
today and overall things are
starting to come up. Last weekend in Lyng was good and so was this
Grand Prix. I qualified tenth and was happy with that, as I managed to
keep in touch with the guys ahead. Today was positive with some good
starts. I was running tenth in the first one and unfortunately had a
small crash and went back to thirteenth. The second moto was tough
because the track was so bumpy. I was a bit disappointed with myself on
the first few laps, but once I got going I put in some decent lap times
and managed tenth. I think Latvia will be really good for me. It is a
bit sandy and loose and I’m looking forward to it.”

Neil
Prince: CAS Honda Team Manager

“This weekend has been very
positive for the team, and I am pleased both riders have brought some
confidence from their one-two overall in the British Championship races
last weekend. Bobryshev has ridden well all weekend and has been running
in the front group of riders. His qualifying race
was very strong and he rode good races today with no mistakes, which is
great as he has gained some good points for his Championship. We’ve
finally seen Gareth riding where he should be in the last few weeks and
he has also ridden better this weekend. He needs to work on having some
more speed in the first 10 minutes of the race, but overall we have had a
good weekend on what was a very tough track. Our aim is to continue
with this momentum over the next few weeks.”
