Another solid ride from ‘Swanie’‏

Gareth Swanepoel has enjoyed
another solid weekend racing in the USA. Following his first race on the
Yamaha 250f in Southwick last weekend Swanepoel was able to get a few laps
in mid-week before heading Steel City for the penultimate AMA outdoor of
2010.

In the timed practice sessions
‘Swanie’ once again demonstrated good speed on the smaller
capacity machine, qualifying in 11th, just behind Wilson; Barcia
and Rattray.

In the opening moto Swanepoel
struggled a little with his start but managed to round out the opening lap
in 13th position. Getting into a good rhythm
‘Swanie’ continued to move through the pack, but then some
small mistakes lost the South African a little ground. Swanepoel ultimately
crossed the finish in 13th.

Moto two was an even worse start
for ‘Swanie’ who sat back in 20th position. Racing
hard and finding great rhythm on the technical and slippery circuit
Swanepoel was moving through the pack quickly, making passes each lap. In
the end ‘Swanie’ crossed the line in 12th, awarding
him 12th overall for the day.

Gareth Swanepoel: “Overall I
am happy with today. My riding was good and I am really enjoying the Yamaha
250f, it is great fun to ride. Really it was just my starts that held me
back today, like in any high level race the guys are fast and it is tough
to fight through, but anyway I enjoyed it. This week I hope we have some
time to practice some starts ahead of the last round in Pala, if I can get
up there hopefully can mix it nearer the front of the
pack.”
