After Capturing First AMA Motocross Win in More Than Six Years, Ferry Lines up for U.S. Open

AURORA, Ill. (August 7, 2007) – Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry, of Dade City, Fla., announced today that he will compete in the 10th-Annual Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14. Ferry recently captured his first AMA Motocross class win in more than six years, finishing a consistent 2-2 at Washougal, Wash.

In 1997, Ferry, 32, captured the Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites Series championship. Since entering his first professional race in 1991, he has raced for three factory teams – Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. At last year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Ferry made his debut for Factory Kawasaki, finishing 5-6 for sixth overall.

“The U.S. Open is a tricky race because it’s unique compared to the regular supercross season,” said Ferry. “You have to be consistent on both nights. The race is a great gauge for the up-coming supercross season.”

In 17-years of professional racing, Ferry enjoyed the best supercross season of his career this year, finishing third overall in Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series. In doing so, he scored six podium finishes and had seven additional top five finishes.

“This has been the best year of my career,” he said. “I think the main factor is my health. I am 100% healthy this year compared to past seasons where I was always riding hurt. When good things happen throughout the course of the season, everything just falls into place.”

Ferry is excited about the revised Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open race format where there will be one open class, allowing the 250F riders to compete against the 450F riders. A specialist on the 450 four-stroke machine, Ferry says the 250 four-stroke will have a huge advantage in the corners during this year’s ‘open class’ race.

“The new class structure makes the race ultra-competitive,” said Ferry. “If guys like Josh Grant and Jason Lawrence show up, I think they are the type of guys that can run with the riders in the premier class. The Lites bikes are a great addition to the race.”
