Press Release

AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Returns West for The Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park, July 26-27

WASHOUGAL, Wash. (July 22, 2008) – As the 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF prepares to hit the home stretch, the series makes its annual trip to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and the 28th Annual Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park Presented by Yamaha and Scott USA on July 26-27. Always a popular stop on the tour, Washougal offers a break from the heat and humidity typical for the summer season thanks to its cooler temperatures and abundance of greenery.

Track Owners Ralph and Carolyn Huffman will provide a challenging track once again this year for the world’s best riders. The infamous Horsepower Hill will separate the men from the boys throughout the weekend while providing great action for the fans in attendance.

Current AMA Motocross Lites points leader, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, hails from nearby Poulsbo, Wash., and is the defending two-time national champion as well as the first rider in history to win an AMA Toyota Motocross Championship from the state of Washington. Still yet to reach an overall victory at his home circuit, Villopoto is bringing a 17-moto, seven-race winning streak with him and would like nothing more than to leave home with a victory.

In the premier AMA Motocross class, current points leader James Stewart, of Monster Energy Kawasaki, suffered a season-ending injury at Washougal last year. The 2006 event winner is excited about returning to Washington and hopes avenge last season’s misfortune. Additionally, Stewart is a perfect 16-0 in motos in 2008 en route to winning all eight of this year’s events. This feat has been accomplished twice in the history of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship and Stewart can inch one step closer with a win at Washougal over the final weekend of July.

After a three-week break, the AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross National Championship Presented by Kawasaki returns to the track in Washington. A popular fixture at AMA Toyota Motocross races, the Washougal race is the penultimate round on the series. Rookie sensation Ashley Fiolek will lead the way aboard her American Honda/Red Bull/Alpinestars Honda as the current points leader with American Honda/Honda of Houston/Fox Racing/Bad Boy Energy Drink’s Jessica Patterson and Yamaha, Jayco, Etnies, FMF, Answer Racing’s Tarah Gieger giving chase.

Additionally, amateur racing will set the tone for an exciting weekend of action with events running Thursday through Saturday morning.

Television coverage of The Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park Presented by Yamaha and Scott USA can be seen on SPEED, with an AMA Motocross class one-hour broadcast on August 2, at 10 p.m. ET and an AMA Motocross Lites one-hour show on August 6, at 2 p.m. ET.
