Round 2 of the MX1 World
Championship headed to sunny Italy this past weekend where the top
riders
would fight it out for victory on the demanding Mantova circuit. Having
had
a mixed start at round 1 in Bulgaria last weekend Ramon was looking for 2
good results to boost his world title campaign.

The weekend started well for the
‘Bomb’ as he posted the fastest time in timed practice, over a
second faster than anyone. An average start though in the Saturday
qualifying race left Ramon fighting for every position as he ultimately
crossed the line to qualify in 6th position.

Sunday morning dawned to light
rain, but the sandy circuit soon soaked it up before the sun
re-immerging
mid morning.

MX1 Moto 1 blasted off, but a
poor
start left Ramon down in 17th position with plenty work to do
if
he wanted to get through. Lap after lap the Belgian star fought hard as
he
pushed his way through the elite field of riders. In the end the Suzuki
rider had to settle for 10th place.

Moto 2 was yet another tough
start
for the ‘Bomb’, this time rounding out lap one in
14th place. With another aggressive ride Ramon clawed through
to
7th place at the chequered flag, giving Ramon 7th
overall for the Grand Prix.

Steve’s comments on the
day….

"Tough day! Tough first moto!
Out
of the start someone elbowed me and that set me back. I made a lot of
positions by turning tight but then in the third corner two guys crashed
in
front of me and I had to pull up and had nowhere to go. A bit further
on,
Coppins did a front flip over the double into the triple and I was
following in the same rut so I jumped on his bike; it was a crazy first
lap. I tried to get back to the front but it is really difficult here to
make time and ground. If you want to go fast here then you need a good
rhythm; if you push too hard, then you are making mistakes. In the
second
moto the start was not good again and the first laps were a battle. But I
did the best that I could to come back and score as many points as
possible."

This coming weekend Ramon is due
to take place in the German Championship, before the 3rd
round
of the MX1 World Championship on the 24/25th April in
Valkenswaard, Holland.
