6D Shear-Away Visor Screws Explained

6D’s co-founder and director of engineering, Robert Reisinger explains the design, functionality and real-world application of 6D’s shear-away visor screws on team Geico/Honda’s Zach Bell’s actual helmet from his, now famous, heat race crash at the Dallas Supercross, earlier this year.

The 6D shear-away visor screws are specifically precision manufactured of engineered plastic rather than aluminum or titanium, to allow the screws to shear in the event of a high-stress impact or snag, reducing energy transfer to the head and improving rider safety.

The 6D shear-away visor screws are just one more element to 6D’s overall goal of ‘Advanced Impact Defense’.

About the 6D’s ATR-1 helmet: The 6D ATR-1 off-road motorcycle helmet makes an entirely new helmet technology available to the athlete. 6D’s ‘ODS’ (Omni-Directional Suspension) technology is designed to be more compliant against lower-threshold energy impacts, while still providing all of the necessary protection required to manage an extreme impact. Additionally, the ‘ODS’ system significantly reduces critical angular acceleration energy providing unmatched protection to the athlete; a function traditional helmet designs are not equipped to address.
