2009 Motocross World Championship Starts - New 125cc 2 Stroke European Championship Announced

FAENZA (ITALY), 29 March 2009 – The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship starts today at Faenza, Italy, and once again Youthstream and FIM welcome another World Championship season.

During the conference it was also announced that a new European series dedicated to 2 stroke 125cc bikes will be organized together with the World MX1 and MX2 Championships in a total of six/seven events starting in 2010.

Giuseppe Luongo, the Youthstream President, stated: “The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship continues to grow, we will continue to invest on the television production, on the infrastructures, on the promotion, on the comfort for the riders, the teams and the spectators. We have realized everything which was promised. The TV production will have the live on board camera and the jimmy jib, the new pit lane is set up, the Pit Lounge is fully operational and the many other improvements can be already seen in the venue. The Championship will be broadcast online live and free of charge with Freecaster.tv. In 2010 we will start the new 125cc 2 stroke UEM European Championship in six/seven events together with the MX1 and MX2 series. This will help the young riders and their families to reduce the costs.”

Dr. Wolfgang Srb, the FIM/CMS President, continued: “Everybody is very excited at the kick-off of the 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship season. We have finished last year in Faenza and we start the 2009 Championship also at this challenging track. The teams have already done a couple of pre-season races in order to get ready. Today we will see the best riders in the world starting their race for the 2009 titles in MX1 and MX2 as well as for the Veteran World Cup. I wish them all the best of luck!”

After a successful 2008 season when the series had more than 1 billion TV viewers, more than 3.5 million visitors to the Youthstream web-site and more than 600 million News Paper and Magazine readers there are great expectations for 2009.

The entrance of new main sponsors such as Teka and Braun, the continuous support of Red Bull, KTM and Hyundai, lay a strong base which is enriched by many novelties such as a stronger television coverage, a better organized paddock receiving the full timing and TV feed, more opportunities and promotional tools for the partners involved in the series.

The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship will visit 14 countries through 15 events, starting in Faenza this weekend and ending in Canelinha, Brazil, on September 13.
