10th Annual Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Flashback - 2006 Champion James Stewart

AMA Supercross’ changing of the guard was foreshadowed last year at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open. In his inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, 20-year-old phenom James Stewart dominated both nights of racing, beating 15-time AMA National Champion Ricky Carmichael. Stewart went on to win his second World Supercross GP title and his first-ever AMA Supercross Series title. Prior to last year’s race, Carmichael’s exit strategy from racing a full

supercross schedule in 2007 was announced during a press conference. In conjunction with announcement, Carmichael discussed his future plans in stock car racing and unveiled his Ginn Racing car to the media. The news of Carmichael’s departure spread throughout the industry, but it wasn’t enough to drown the amazing, two-night performance Stewart turned in on the track. Stewart made it apparent that he was the future of supercross.
