Tragedy In Huntigton Beach, California

Chris Palmer, the writer of Jeremy McGrath’s Wide Open and a friend of his passed away on Monday morning.  The men were among five people who went for a swim after midnight just north of Huntington Beach Pier, said Huntington Beach Police Lt. Craig Junginger. When their friends noticed the two men were not with them, they notified the beach maintenance crew, which called police, officials said.

The victims were identified as Christopher Palmer, 24, of
Long Beach, who died about a week before his 25th birthday, and Ryan Reid, 22, of Huntington Beach, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.  The cause is "presumed drowning" pending the autopsies, Amormino said, adding that it was not known whether alcohol was involved.

Those who knew Palmer said he was a “genuine guy” who was good at his job.  Palmer was well known in the motocross industry with part suppliers and the athletes because of his outgoing personality.  Most recently he worked for ASV Inventions with Bob Morales.
