First time poster on this forum!!
Was curious if anybody could give me some feedback on my 2020 KX250 shock settings.
I am a complete novice 41 year old male rider that weighs approximately 185 lbs with rider gear on.
I purchased this bike and rode it about a half dozen times last year. Mostly sandy trails in Michigan. Did one track day as well.
I rode the bike the way I purchased it from a rider I thought had a fair bit of riding experience throughout his life. I didn’t check sag or shock settings - even though I should have. A couple of weeks ago I was going to try riding again and decided I should check the shock settings to see where he had them. When I did, I found some of them to be a long ways off the baseline manual settings. I decided to have my bike looked at by a shop to be gone through for more than just the shock settings.
I found the front fork compression to be only 2 clicks open from full stiff (standard 13) and on front rebound 12 clicks open (standard 10). Rear spring low speed compression was at only 1 click open from full stiff (standard 7). Rear high speed compression unsure - I forgot to check it before it went to the shop. Rear rebound was 12 clicks open (standard 17).
The shop said quote “not sure what the heck he was doing”. They also said most amateur riders don’t adjust the settings more than a click or two either direction from stock/standard settings - at most generally 3. They said they couldn’t tell me even what to expect the next time I ride because they haven’t ever seen somebody ride with those settings so far from standard in that way.
Was wondering if anybody on here could give me an idea on what to expect now from the bike or why somebody would have put those settings on the bike. I know it’s probably a very tough question, but any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated as I want to go ride it again this fall. Was curious as to how this might affect the way the bike would handle jumps too…..honestly probably the part I am most curious about based on my one track day I did with it setup like that.
Thank you for time and your consideration!!
He likely was faster than your average shop customer. Start on stock settings. You will likely need springs @185. The stock forks will be an issue no matter what you do.
