Anyone doing any traveling now that the weathers better ? We loaded up the dual sports for an overdue 8 night camp / dual sport trip. First stop Tuttle Town for a couple days, then over to the coast to a campground near Fort Bragg.
Hope to find some fun trails / neat areas to explore.
Flying in to San Francisco in 2 weeks with the wife and youngest son. Son’s going to fly to my dad’s in Boise while the wife and I head to wine country for a couple of days, then we’re road tripping to Boise to see my parents. My oldest and his girlfriend are meeting us there.
Gonna go street ride the smokeys with about a half dozen guys. 4 days camping off the bikes. Hope for good weather.
Maybe I'll make the 4 hour drive to Unadilla this year. That's about it for me.
I’m working on connecting trail systems in this region…
The Shop
ECMX in Lewiston for the OTMX race in September (about 6 hrs one-way). Haven’t been back in that area since a few years after graduation at WSU…longer ago than I’d like to admit, lol…
Oregon coast next month with the Mrs for a few days.
That’s about it. I’d love to see the final year of the Reno Air Races, but without the two heavy hitter mustangs and/or Rare Bear, not really worth it to me for the expense.
With gas goimg back up to 4.50 agallon here in Chicago for basic I'm probably gonna travel less then I was expecting to.
Off to Maui next month. Maybe get to do a dive or 2.
And maybe finally get to stand up on my surfboard with my dog. (yes she goes with)
Last time was a big fail. But I'll keep trying.

The wife & I drove out to Northern Maryland last week to surprise our Son on his 30th birthday! (He is living in Northern Maryland about 9 miles from the Pa state-line & working at Aberdeen Proving grounds) We are currently trying to get hold of 2 tickets for and hoping to ride the adventure bikes over to the High Point National next Saturday in Pa! Get in a little Dad/Son time and catch another National while we’re at it! 😎 👍❗️
That sounds like a great vacation. Just curious what exactly is the Aberdeen proving ground ? I googled it because I’ve never heard of it. It said family orientated military base, but it wasn’t exactly clear what they do there ? Hope your son was surprised ! Ride safe and have fun at the national
We did an 80 mile ride in that general area today. We’re staying with a friend who lives in Tuttle Town. There’s a lot of trails / forest service roads ! My friend has been here 3 years now, is an old desert racer who’s good at reading maps and we were scratching our heads more than once today. Lots of unmarked or poorly marked roads an intersections. You get caught in the thunderstorm today ? We caught in it, thunder cracking right over our heads, we dumped on and soaked ! But then it quit and sun came back out, we were dry by the time we got back. Great day 😎
Keeping it simple this year. Smugglers Poker Run is coming up in August. It’s about a 57 mile run of tight single track going through Capital Forest neat Olympia Wa.
I’ll be spending the next few weekends riding out there prepping for it.
Also looking forward to salmon season kicking off. I have my cousin from California coming up late August to do some riding and, fishing. Should be a good time.
l last but, not least I’m planning on spending a week at the Washington coast with my wife for our 22 year anniversary. Man time flies.
Looking forward to some upcoming destinations in late July / August:
- Bullards Bar Reservoir / Houseboat trip - never been there and it's practically in our backyard (NorCal)
- Discovery Bay / Delta - family pow wow on my Wife's side. My Dad lives a half-hour away by water, so we'll make a run to his place too.
- Driving to Salt Lake City to drop off our younger at University of Utah. I'll be sure to explore a dirt road or two when I'm out there.
- Drive back home officially empty nesters...'til they move back home!
Aberdeen is the Army’s testing area. Think Edwards Air Force Base but with tanks instead of planes.
The rest of the country has is a lot cheaper. 337 just outside of Boston, 301 near atl. Some ne states r a bit high yet. Atl to Boston sat there must hv been 50 mil people traveling. Brutal traffic all the way up. Va. To Boston is ridiculous
What Sully said!
It is an old military testing facility that develops munitions for US Armed Forces. I’m not 100% certain & don’t know all the history on the post, but I believe they have been testing/developing munitions at the same location all the way back to when the US of A was still a colony of the King hisownself!? 🤪
My son who is an avid golfer (he played two years of Collegiate golf!) was told the post had to relocate the golf course off of the base many years ago when golfers were routinely finding unexploded ordnance on the original course that was in close proximity to the range! Apparently golf on the old original course was similar to playing through on an active minefield??! 😵💫
We are having a great trip and finalizing our plans for High Point MX next Saturday! 😎
Made a run to Victorville CA from Wichita KS couple of weeks ago to visit family and used the trip for scouting out camping spots. Really love the Mesa Verde area in CO but the Taos area is pretty sweet as well.
Just got to Caspars beach RV park a few miles south of Fort Bragg. Going to go explore on dual sports tomorrow.
It’s chilly up here but perfect riding weather 👍
Nothing special this summer.
Just our usual trips to our cabin up on top of linville gorge.
Planning on doing a section of the Trans America Trail between Damascus Virginia and Tellico Plains Tennessee this fall, during leaf peeper season.
Pit Row
TG do you ever gopro/film any of your rides? You seem to get to ride some epic terrain and I want to live vicarously - Texas has a lot of great things, but scenic riding isnt one of them
Me and my folks are driving up from FL to Morgantown WV on Thursday - going to attend High Point! It'll be the first national my family has attended, so I'm really looking forward to it.
My Son & I got our impromptu trip to Mt Morris plans finished up yesterday, grabbed a couple passes and will be there Saturday too! He has been to numerous SX races over the years, but this will be his first Outdoor MX!
Gonna ride the adventure bikes over and make a weekend of it! Should be a great Fathers day weekend! 😎 👍❗️
Waiting until fall, but a buddy and I are heading to Moab to ride The Whole Enchilada on MTBs in October.
Ever been out to the Big Bend area, and the Chisos mts. ??
Great place to ride, especially in the winter.
Cancun Baby!!!
Had a great time, ate and drank like a King....
Anybody see the motocross track on the right about 30 mins or so after leaving the airport?
It's in the middle of the city!
Looked dry ....lol
Went to big bend as a teenager - I really want to take my kids soon, its just quite the haul from where I live
Yeah, that track looks beat - but it would be really cool if they did rentals
Going to spend a few days in July at Hocking Hills in Ohio. Lots of trails and stuff.
I used to go Rock Crawling in Tellico. Some of the toughest, most technical trails I’ve ever been on. The mud adds a level of difficulty on the rocks.
I like the sign that says the following activities are prohibited at camp nine, and the first thing listed is camping LOL

Are you going to Barona this weekend for father's day? The kids (my son and his friends) take me there every year on father's day.
Post a reply to: Road Trip ! Who’s going where this summer ?
