Got my FloRacing Class Action Settlement today for the 2020 MX season streaming adventure....  a whopping $10.14. Cant even buy a Five Guys single with that here.

Given the total pot was about $2.5 mil, that means about 250,000 were wronged.

That's not how it works. About 200 people were wronged and the attorneys got the rest. You know because they worked so hard.

Reminds me of the Silverado/Sierra fuel tank settlement. My dad got the settlement notice, and the “award” for people in the class was something like 2K off a new truck, with the stipulations that you had to:

-Use it on a NEW vehicle, not used

-Use it on a Silverado/Sierra truck as I recall

-buy within a couple years

-mention the credit BEFORE starting negotiations with the dealer, discussing trade, etc

Oh and the lawyers:

-15 mil each

The attorneys got a third of the recovery in this case, so $875,000. $1,750,000 for the claimants.

How would those 200 people have gotten anything if it weren't for the Attorneys?

I don't believe so, I think it's more like 40% plus expenses. And you can run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in "expenses". Shit, the "experts" probably got hundreds of thousands of dollars in a case like this.

You know I was being facetious. But the reality of the matter is, there are some firms that file MDL or class action suits and do a shit ton of work. Then there are "me too" attorneys. They advertise to get clients to sign on like they are doing something. However, they do nothing but wait till the powerhouse firms force a settlement or win in court. Then the lesser attorneys go to their clients and say it's settlement time. I believe they actually have to pay the powerhouse firm for using their work product in their settlement.

Those numbers came directly from the Order approving the settlement agreement. The agreement called for an attorney fee up to one third of the recovery. The Judge has to approve the final number and he granted the max of $875,000 for fees and costs.

Well I'll defer to your #s then. Typically, the attorneys are the ones who make out the best. I'll leave it at that. I'll continue to make fun of how bad the people get screwed though. I did get a settlement check one time for a class action suit, it was for $2.17. I think it cost more to process and send the check. A few years ago, I  received a check for approx $170 in the mail for a "class action settlement" that I had no idea why. Could not find any info on it. Decided it was a scam to get my bank info, went straight into the evidence storage bin. Bzzzzz, gone.

I always fill out the post cards that are sent to join the class. I have gotten about a half dozen or so settlements in the $2 to $30 range. Got $22 from the Equifax hack. Got checks from Apple, Amazon and Zoom settlements too.

However, one time I got $4900 from my 401k administrator. They were investing our funds in one of their financial subsidiaries and someone was on the ball enough to prove they could have got way more in a similar investment on the open market without a conflict of interest. I was VERY surprised when I opened that envelope.

That's excellent! I'm always thinking someone is out to scam me. I almost got scammed for $800ish once. My wife had been in chemo for a few months and I was answering the phone for her business. Got a call that the electricity was set to be shut off for right around $800 owed. Interestingly that's about what the monthly bill was around that time. I thought that things were not up to date as she had been feeling quite ill the last few months. So I asked If I could just pay via CC. They said no because processing time would put me past the shutoff deadline. However if I went to thrifty  (or whatever store) and bought a prepaid XXX card and called them back they'd take that. So I called the electricity company to inquire. Nope, run of the mill scam. Funny thing is, had it not been very similar to what I knew her monthly electricity bill was, that would have red flagged it right there. But being in a very low mental state at the time, almost got me.

Why would an attorney think he deserves a 1/3 of winnings in a multi million dollar lawsuit? Because they are pieces of shit lol

Reminds me of a joke:

Q: Whats the difference between a dead attorney in the road, and a deer?

A: Theres skid marks before the deer.
