I’ve seen Riverfront in NorCal do the same to intentionally replicate Loretta’s for rut practice.
I’m surprised at all the hate for it. I don’t like tracks with endless jump sections. It’s supposed to be motocross not outdoor supercross. So with that said, if there’s ruts I try not to get upset because a tricky track is fun. If it’s rough or rutted, it can be tiring and humbling but it isn’t a bad thing.
not every day is a hero day and honestly the hero days don’t really teach you much from what I can tell.
I think the issue is with tracks going endlessly that way, rather than with when it happens more naturally. If you ride in winter, you'd expect there to be more ruts. If you ride on clay in summer, you'd expect hardpack.
The other issue is tailoring the track for the riders. At a club/schoolboy meeting having the track prepped like Teuschenthal was for the MXGP this year is just plain stupid, you don't have fast enough riders to get 'proper' ruts so you end up with octagonal things that are bolt upright. You also have riders who will dab feet more, meaning you're increaing risk of injury for people who can't ride those conditions by setting it up to be over their skill level.
Variety is the spice of life, and MX is supposed to teach you to ride all conditons and soil types using skills that adapt and change. When every track is like that, no-one ever has to learn anything else. It's a bit boring. I've spoken to shop owners in the UK who don't bother ordering hard or medium/hard tyres any more because there's literally no point as they never sell because tracks are permanently soft.
Looks challenging, but you gotta sac up right !!

My knees started hurting just looking at it. I'm not a fan of slot car tracks, but there will be a lot of chest thumpers in here saying that looks good.
Give me a grassy off camber any day. That'll sort out who can actually ride.
Looks like just about every track I race here in the Midwest now. I’m not a fan. Really limits passing opportunities when you’re stuck in a single rut all the way into and through every corner. Coming in wide and exiting up the inside to make a pass is a thing of the past. At this point, the only way you can pass a guy in a corner is to pick a different line and hope the guy in front of you screws up in the rut he chose. I think we can thank MX Sports for this. Every local track now wants to prep like a national. This is why Supercross is so much more exciting to watch now, IMO. People can actually pass in corners.
Did you see the recent short on IG, of Herling's pass TWO DUDES in a turn? He cut a razor blade from outside to inside and passed them like they were stupid. Soft dirt and no ruts like this garbage.
If that’s too much, what do you guys want in a track? Can’t have too many jumps because that’s dangerous, can’t have ruts because that’s dangerous, can’t have too large of braking bumps because that’s dangerous, seriously what do you guys want a hard packed freeway? I don’t see anything wrong with what was posted, there’s a smooth outside line if you want it and if you can manage the ruts the inside lines are yours for the taking. Nobody is getting any better riding smooth vet tracks, at least this slows the track down a bit and provides a little bit of challenge.
While not my cup of tea because I sucked at ruts, that doesn't look like too ridiculous of track conditions to me. I'd be choosing that far left line every lap.
Looks like it's a prime suspect for a pass or 2 with the rake, then it would be perfect.
You’ve contradicted yourself. You say “it doesn’t look that bad” but then follow that up with “I’d choose the far left line every lap”
So the least rutted part would be your choice every lap… you don’t make sense.
This is why I don't race anymore. That looks boring to me
