Seeing people’s comments on Oakland and what a complete crime filled cesspool that area is got me curious what the worst place is to attend. I went to seattle for the first time last year and it was definitely sketchy around there. We just paid the $50 in the parking garage nearby and walked a couple blocks and it was fine. How does Seattle compare to places like Oakland? Is Oakland the worst?
I like that you can park right next to the stadium in Oakland. We made fresh pizza in the parking lot and had a blast tailgating for hours. Getting in and out was easy. Totally different than Seattle. Oversized rigs are an absolute PITA in Seattle.
There is a good Oakland SX Spectator thread sporting a few hundred comments btw.
Worst ever for me was the old Sam Boyd stadium in Vegas. I went their with my son and his mom back in 2004 or 5 for the last race of the year. I wanted to see the pits and all the day time activity. So we took a cab to get there....I had no clue how far it was from strip at the time and I was convinced we were lost. I don't remember the cost but was st least $60 or 70 one way. My son needed a nap before the night show, so we headed back to the hotel and then back to the stadium. 4 different cab rides, plus food and many a drinks, so I could numb myself from what I spent to go to the race. It was and expensive weekend. I know people will say Oakland but I love that stadium, I have lots of great memories from that stadium and seen some historical things there.
Only from a stadium design standpoint, my least favorite is SLC due to the narrow walkways by the concessions and bathrooms that fill up to capacity quickly. Parking is free for the most part but the traffic will make you appreciate paid parking. I love the city and the mountains but not the stadium. Reminds me of Dodger Stadium.
I would say Minnesota last year when they about carbon monoxide’d everyone to death.
The Shop
If we can't have the final in Vegas, Anaheim should be the first and last rounds. There is no place to celebrate/ party in Salt Lake after the race, plus the track is too small for the last race of the year.
So because you didn’t know where the stadium is in relation to the strip it’s a bad stadium? I loved going there, parking by the soccer fields and walking in. There’s not a bad place to watch the racing(once you get past the sunset).
It lacked some of the amenities of the nicer stadiums but worked well.
Yes. It's my fault I get it. But that's what I remember about it and was pretty much on par with the Oakland Coliseum but less bathrooms and vendors.
Detroit is less desirable because we can't get into the pits. Due to being smack downtown Detroit there's no room for the pits in one area, and they're scattered here and there giving zero pit access (unless you know someone and get a wrist band - happened for me once). No Pit Party puts it up there as one of the worst to attend in my mind. I believe there are a few SX locales with no pit access.
Surprised you didn't blame DeCoster for your experience.
New Orleans, Mercedes Benz Superdome..... although my wife is adamant that she loved it because K-Dub's intro started in the stands right beside us and she got a picture!
There is a Dave Chappelle bit on SF and Oakland that's pretty funny. I would link it but I'm sure it would get deleted.

Oakland seems pretty shit
Damn isn't that the shit
I still don’t think I financially recovered from the $50 parking fee in the garages a few blocks from the stadium… they know people have to park there, so they just jack up the price.
$50 to park a car, Unbelievable.
Iused to go to San Francisco Supercross all the time when I lived in Norcal. I’ve told this story before, we got to the race in Frisco before my dad’s buddy and we told him to not park in the general parking lot/garage-Whatever it was back then, but to park outside the stadium a little bit or he will be in traffic hell after the race. of course he didn’t listen. We both lived in Sacramento, and once we got home after the race, we called to see where he was and he was still sitting in traffic on the BAY BRIDGE, which is just right around the corner from the stadium. That’s why last year after Seattle, we just stayed outside the stadium in bellevue
A thread about the worst stadiums to attend a SX? WTF?
Did they remodel the Los Angeles Coliseum? That place was a shithole when I was a kid in the 90’s.
I was thinking the same thing.....
I go to watch the racing......not the bathrooms or the hot dog stand.
Yeah...but leaving a candy apple red Challenger unattended anywhere in Oakland, is asking for it.
Pit Row
I love Atlanta motor speedway. It’s nowhere near Atlanta and easy to get in and back out to the interstate.
This guy's onto something!
This. I just leave my shit unlocked all the time. No one steals my car and no one breaks my windows. It sucks, but we learn to manage here.
If you don't have industry passes, I think Daytona is the worst. (Does that count as stadium?)
most industry seating is some of the worst in daytona in my opinion. most is on the side of the track where you cant see. rolex club level is of course premium, but the reserved seating can be fantastic.
What is asking for it, is a rookie move like AC did leaving something inside the car that is visible. Same thing happened to Lee McCollum a few years ago in Oakland. If you don't want your stuff stolen, don't advertise it. It's not rocket science.
You're both missing the point. Good information to know ahead of time if you're planning on going to your first SX in person, which stadiums are less desirable,
I live in Denver. Went to the Oakland SX. Aside from the 22 year olds having several hundred of their first beers and acting 9. I didn't think it was too bad.
Crime is crime. Put easy targets in one condensed area....it's like some of you have never been to a city.
Ford Field and surrounding area is top 5 stadiums/areas on the schedule. By far. And I've done all but Atlanta Speedway.
The pit layout has nothing to do with pit access. Being a Northern State in the middle of March is why there is no pit party.
Los Angeles coliseum
His caption on Instagram was something to the tune of "don't worry, nothing was in the car. I've been here before."
Oh, we get the point. I think you are missing the point that they are almost all the same, go enjoy the racing and put all the other nonsense about stadiums away. We used to never ask this type of question.
