Not sure if anyone saw this but it's rumored/unofficially confirmed that Travis Pastrana will line up for the 2023 edition of the Daytona 500 for NASCAR Cup Team 23XI Racing (verbalized as 23-11 Racing, a wordplay on team owners Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan's professional numbers). He'll have to make his way in through timed qualifying, as it's a third entry for the team and outside the two cars they have charters for (which are guaranteed their way into the race). He'll be trying to qualify his way in against seven-time NASCAR Champ Jimmie Johnson, who is racing a part-time schedule in a third car for a team he just bought into, the former Petty GMS Racing. Now named Legacy Motor Club.
The main sponsor on his car would likely be Black Rifle Coffee for the race, but there should be an official announcement this week.
If you're not a NASCAR fan, will you tune in or keep an eye on the race to see how our own will do?
I dont know what his oval racing pedigree is, but that is a huge step.
Adds some interest
He’s made starts in the Busch league and Truck Series, but this will be his first start in the premier Cup Series.
They've taken away so much power since he was in Xfinity, The cup cars are probably slower than what he drove the last time he tried Nascar. He'll be fine.
I love TP but he had a hard time staying focused and patient when he was driving in the Xfinity series for Roush. Those are shorter races than Cup series races. Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
The Shop
The only reason I will watch will be to see how he does.
Pretty cool for Travis
I like Pastrana, but even that won't get me to watch the cars turn left.
What about when they turn right as well?
I have to agree.
NASCAR has to be one of the most boring sports in the world. It sure as hell isn't what it was back in the 60's/70's. It's long been ruined.
This is why when people say "we need to grow SX/MX", I cringe. Because all I see is what has been done to NASCAR, NFL, MLB, NBA....etc etc etc.....
If he was racing a road course, maybe.
Is he going to try a backflip over the finish line stripe? 🤦♂️😆😆
Best of luck to him. It would be cool to see him get in.
I've heard that the news will be official on Tuesday. I really hope gets in for Sunday and does his best to stay out of the big one.
Nascar in the 90's was badass.
Last year with the new car the racing was pretty damn good. TP199 is awesome, but I think when it comes to pack racing he is gonna be out of his element.
The current gen Cup cars have been handing out a lot of concussions in relatively mild wrecks. That's a big risk for Travis to take, especially at a track like Daytona.
They have made some significant changes for this season to the rear crash structure to change that. Will see if it makes a difference
I watch a ton of circle track racing. Mainly sprint cars/dirt late models. Kyle larson sort of brought me back into watching nascar when I don’t have much going on on Sunday afternoons. Will be tough for Travis to race his way into the 500.
NASCAR was off the charts in the 90’s and even into the early 2000’s. It’s nothing like it once was. I was a NASCAR freak years back. I seldom even watch it anymore.
has he ever driven a super speedway race?
when the twin 150's go, he has a chance if he can stay in the pack
Pit Row
You'll have to watch the V8 Supercar series found in Australia
Winged Sprints is the best racing there is.
Larson has killed it the past 3 years , getting the flick from Nascar hit them hard, and was a huge boost for Late Models , Sprint Cars and Mini Sprints, and a lot of folk havent gone back.
Who wants to sit through a 500 miler when you can have a proper race, done and dusted in 20 mins tops.
I used to work for Penske here in the UK, and watched every race. we were the last ever Dodge winners in 2008, when we went 1-2 and i dont think i have watched a race since 2015.
On the flip side, i could pick Johnathon Davenport out in a crowd in a supermarket. which is probably unlikely to happen here in the UK, but you never know.
You Tube access to Oval Racing has had a huge positive impact, yet MX/SX shuts it all down, to the point where i watch zero MX stuff, now other than the broadcast, my January is as much about the Tulsa Shootout and the Chili Bowl than A1.
Gutted that my old sponsor in the US isnt still running a mini-sprint effort, else i would have gone to Tulsa for certain.
Cool for him, but how old is he? Hasn't his ship sailed as far as this kind of thing? Who is even paying for this? This just seems ridiculous for his Wil E. Coyote schtick.
He’s 39. I don’t follow anything related to nascar but it seems like it isn’t quite the young mans game like Moto? I believe he is paying out of his own pocket with the help of Black Rifle Coffee.
Yeah into the 2000,s it was Huge. A real spectacle. Now Indy cars is where the Best racing is. Strange that the oldest track in the country The Milwaukee mile is such a failure.
Nascar went to shit when it tried to appeal to "your" demographic.
No time to watch TV when your rubbing lotion on the skin with Buffalo Bob and Bruno.
That escalated quickly.
My wife and I have been a NASCAR fans since the early 90's. I'm also a life long, hardcore mx/sx fan. But I like and watch many forms of racing.
Nascar racing has never been better and more intense than it is now. Largely due to the playoffs and the new car. No more just cruising around logging laps. Drivers scrap for every point, and last year they had a record number of different winners.
And the sport isn't just for old white guys anymore. Michael Jordan and Pitbull are both owners now and many of the drivers are under 30, more than a few under 25. It still draws the highest ratings of any US motorsport.
I'm excited to see what TP 199 can do. I'd love to see him in Nascar again.
I never understood this line of thinking. I love things that go fast period. Even if I don't go out of my way to watch all NASCAR races, I will always catch the 500. Going fast and making noise is never bad.
My brother is not a fan of any sport, he is the type of guy who will only attend something if he gets luxury boxes or some sort of great hookup. He absolutely hated NASCAR, but one time he was down here visiting me, and practice was going on, so I took him to the speedway as we walked out of the tunnel at just the right time a pack of 20 cars had a full head of steam and blasted by us. He is still not a fan but having 20 cars go by at 200 mph 10 feet away blew his mind.
Roundy round rednecks suck.
Are you as miserable in real life, as the persona you spew on the internet ??
You should have been around during the, bias ply tire/short track days.
