MXON Weather

9/28/2024 12:40am

Absolutely beautiful in Winchester this morning. Blue skies, sunshine, 57degF and not a cloud.

Tomorrow (or even this afternoon)... could be anything 😁.

That place seems to have a climate all of its own anyway. I’ve been there at the end of February before for the first GP when all forecasts said it was going to be a disaster and race way was absolutely perfect. It takes a ton of rain. Even in 2017 when it rained all day on race day we still had a proper race.

My advice, don’t waste any energy on what the weather is going to do, we’re going to have an unbelievably stacked race and the weather will be what it will be

It's Motocross.

It's Outdoors.

What is to come, is to come.

Any amount of whining and worrying, will not make a damned  bit of difference.

It will be bloody awesome, no matter what.

^^^ this is the way

I’d just add, this year has been the worst year I can remember for rain in my 45 years on planet moto. I tore my ACL in August last year and managed to miss only one meeting before I got cleared to ride in July. Then only had three actually run up to now. It’s been savage, and endless.

So just expect it to be a mudder and anything else will be a bonus! Not like we can change it either way as Bearuno says…

Every time it rains they make it sound like Dumbledore of mud is about to come and school everyone and I’ve just not seen it

The important point here is that Aaron can ride in mud and ride it well. It may actually favor him and improve his results at this race. The real concern would be if AP had a history of bad rides in the mud.

I swear you've got guys on here that want AP to fail so they're proven right.

Unfortunately, Aaron Plessinger has a more complete history of riding for shit at the MXoN than riding well in the mud.

Above is Met Office, which is usually the most accurate; not too bad - it should be a great weekend!!

Fahrenheit was invented in 1724. For those that still use fahrenheit, that was many moons ago.

Yeah, about 70 years before the metric system...

But the real issue between the 2 is that either one is only a problem for someone, if they were raised on the other...

Not for me, I was raised on fahrenheit and imperial measurements but converted to metrification along with the rest of the UK in the 70s and it's way easier IMO.

Its not a forecast, its a fucking guess.

My main task for the weekend is trying not to find out the result, as i wont be there, managed to not find out the MXGP results this week, but being at another race with 10,000 people , in Belgium, i am not optimistic.

It will be a great weekend, last time was a mudder and it was still unreal.

Looks a bit damp but not too bad. They've cut the loop out between the quad and the waves.

Whatever the weather, I hope it's a good race.

The Metric system rules! I just wish I had learned it early in life. As it is, I "think" in English measurements. (Even the UK doesn't do that anymore!)
In Metric, everything lines up in neat, consistent measures:
1 Milligram <--Divided by 1000<- ONE GRAM ->Multiplied by 1000--> 1 Kilogram
1 Milliliter <--Divided by 1000<- ONE LITER ->Multiplied by 1000---> 1 Kiloliter
1 Millimeter <--Divided by 1000<- ONE METER ->Multiplied by 1000--> 1 Kilometer
Take any measurement unit above and it is divided in powers of ten. Going up: Deca-, Hecto-, Kilo-, Mega-, Giga-, Tera-, Penta-. Going down: Deci-, Centi-, Milli-, Micro-, Nano-, Pico-, Femto-.

In "standard" American measurement, it's "16 ounces is a pint, two pints are a quart, four quarts are a gallon. Now take these dozen (12,) gallons of paint 5,280 feet (one mile,) down to the lower property and paint every inch of the fence. You have about a yard (3 feet) of clearance on each side. Be careful, though; that's got to weigh a ton (2,000 pounds)!"

Really?

I'll have to pick up some Crest Anal Bleaching before my next mud race if so.

For fear of taking this too off topic, the UK still hasn't fully embraced metrification quite yet. We still use miles for road distances and speeds - for reasons I don't understand - but we measure just about everything else in metric.  We also still drink pints of beer but that's a tradition thing.

I do wonder if the US will ever adopt metrification.  It already uses milimeters & centimetres for things like engine sizes and gun calibers.

Funny thing about mud races. They come to down to starts, not falling and just sending it without fear of falling. I put almost nothing on being a “mud” rider. Sure some do better but if you’re the god of mud and get a mid pack start, good luck.

I confess I grew up an American, but learned the metric system as well as the imperial, and for me, metric is easier in every single way except when it comes to weather. To me Celsius just has too few numbers for the relevant temperatures we experience day to day. 🤷‍♂️

Digital thermometers usually have 0.1 or 0.5 degree increments. But the weather forecasts only use whole numbers.

Does anybody have a program for the event? Nothing been sent by the organisers as far as I can tell, the website isn’t helpful either. Hilariously amateur.

Don't forget 1 liter of water weighs 1 kilogram!

Met Office looks like it's pretty much sunny intervals from now on! Could be perfect. Steve Dixon has put a lot of new soil onto the track for this year, with the entire surface dug up and de-stoned too.
