Pulp all day, but Gypsy’s guest lineup has been VERY impressive, he is obviously well liked in the moto community..

If he talked less and fuck yeah bro’d a lot less he would be the leading podcast IMO

It’s funny that the worst thing about Gypsy is Gypsy

2 different styles

1 is weekly breakdown and bench racing

The other is Rogan style deep interviews.

it’s great we have both and not 1 or the other

In fact we have like 40 moto podcasts weekly now days..

I feel like it's hard to compare the two. Pulp is a race recaps or pre race talk. Gypsy is a long form sit down interview. I'm not a huge fan of either but I do like long form interviews. Gypsy fan boys out a little too much, if I had to nitpick. But it understandable to come off like that when you're interviewing moto gods

Gypsy needs to be around for a long time before he grows his brand to be that big. He’s definitely on the way though.

It's an apples to oranges comparison. Pulp is current events, Gypsy is personality studies. The real overlap is between Gypsy Tales and Whiskey Throttle, although Ping tends to focus more on history.

My only gripe with Gypsy is that sometimes he just goes on way too long setting up a question. But that probably also helps the interviewees relax and have time to think about how they want to respond, which results in a better answer than if they were going more rapid fire like a traditional interview.

He is taking much better care of himself these days but I'd guess Matthes weighs considerably more than Gypsy.

I like Gypsy but not as much as Gypsy likes Gypsy bro.

I've been loyally listening to Pulp since he started.

Maybe its just my YouTube algo, but I see a lot of Gypsy long form and short form content in my feed. Gypsy does a great job making 30 second reels and 5-15 min clips out of his long form podcasts. I listen to a lot more clips than I do full episodes. I have to search for Pulp.

Sorry man....   Gypsy might be a great guy....but I just cannot listen to him.   The "sick - bro" speak just grates on me.

Matthes....   Pulp is a pale shadow of the early years.      Then there's the constant "product placement" sponsor crap....

1.Ping/Whiskey Throttle

2.Gypsy

3.Pulp

I prefer Ping because he seems to cover the span of the person’s life similar to a biography and they come across more authentic. All three rock and the sport is fortunate to have them.

I can see Gypsy reaching new fans. Especially how he is trending. Pulp is just for the old moto guys.

Both have their place.

I love them both and listen to them both. They are very different and I am thankful to have both available.

Not by a long shot.

Go approach both of them at a race, see which one has a conversation with you.

I'll say at least we get both styles of podcasts to listen to. But I think we'd prefer more of a combination of these 2. Have in depth conversations (like Gypsy) about particular races where they dissect certain motos, tracks, and opponents (like Pulp). And no damn sponsor plugs so often. We understand sponsors pay for these episodes, but don't make it the entire episode's identity. Just show them at the beginning and end and be done. No 3 paragraphs worth of trying to convince us why we need to buy the "GOLD VALVES"..

Whiskey Throttle needs some serious help. A couple of years ago they were producing some of the best moto content out there. It was hit after hit with their long form career retrospectives where big guests were dropping bombshell stories from the golden age of moto. Now it just seems rushed and uninspired. “And then what happened the next year?” “I got third” “what do you remember from that season?” “Not much, I crashed at hangtown.”

I approached Steve at the Reno AX and he was very friendly and had a quick chat with me. I saw him do the same to several other fans too. But maybe he's different in his normal SX/MX environment.

Agreed. I respect his hard work and the guests he pulls in are top notch but I find myself fast forwarding when he starts going on rants and such. He’s gotten better but still.

Pulp is like watching cable TV.   Ads and ads and ads.  I rather the Monday evening format where they talk about the weekend’s race that I watched on TV. Makes me a bit of a smarter viewer for the following race.  He just needs to calm down on the product placement stuff.  Seems like it gets worse every year.

I only listen to Gypsy on occasion based on public feedback about an interview (Eli’s interview 1-2 weeks ago, for example)

Same, met him a couple times. Super friendly to my kid as well, more than happy to take a pic with her and cracked a joke.

I can't get on the gypsy bandwagon with him constantly spewing his views on privateers being cut from the sport.... sorry not sorry

Gypsy is the male Will Christien. Just way, way too much talking. Plus he is getting a bit old for the bro speak. Time to lose that.

Ping's work, for example his two part DV interview, is the benchmark of long form interviews.

The adds are in like 12 minute blocks of a 5 hour show. I'ts really easy to just skip ahead. I always do.

Two different products. I would say Gypsy Tales is more like a modern Steve Matthes Show when he’d do long form interviews with the stars of the sport. Jace is much better at social media as well and knows how to boost his product. Also hasn’t seemed to rustle any feathers of the current pros since he’s not writing articles about the races and can get mostly anyone on.

For example, they both just had Carmichael and Roczen on their shows but they had completely different conversations. I listen to ‘em both.

That's how Steve is. He doesn't like being niche-famous and does not understand the parasocial relationships that his fans have formed with him over the years. JT tries to explain this to Steve all the time and he doesn't like it.
