I noticed that he wasn't wearing the brace at the MXGP of Switzerland. He was the last tier 1 pro wearing a neck brace. Wonder what the deal is, just done with them or a sponsorship issue between Fox and Astars, him being a head to toe Fox athlete?
Interesting. I wonder if that was why he was so fast this weekend?😉
Ryno is crazy.
*Sarcasm
I think Ryno is on to something. I may not be anywhere near the fastest rider in the world, and I may not know what I'm talking about, but I rode one lap in a neck brace once and said "Hell NO." I could tell immediately there would be no getting used to that!
They've come a long way since the early Leatt days. Most newer neck braces you barely even notice that you're wearing one. Not sure what Ryno said... but I'm assuming it was a bit outside the box as is his custom.
Hard to not notice Gasjer without the brace in Switzerland. Almost changes the way he looks on the bike. I'm recalling him racing without one earlier in the year as well, but perhaps that was due to a crash. I can't imagine it's from a sponsor conflict though. He's been with Fox for years and either purchased his own Astars braces or had a backdoor deal with them. Never ran their logos but it was easy to tell what brand he was using.
And yeah, this may complete the full cirlce of the "Neck Brace Era" for pro racers. As EuroGuy39 said, there aren't any tier 1 guys left wearing them. Chilsolm is the only rider who comes to mind. Great rider obviously, but not a top guy.
The Shop
The cheques stopped rolling in so he took it off and now can go faster.
and here come the I wore a first gen leatt and hated it so i will never one again comments. Seriously, if you can’t move your head and neck or look up high enough to see down the track on the latest gen leatts and atlas braces you didn’t fit it correctly.
I had a Leatt one that was built into the chest protector, I think it was called a Fusion 2.0. I absolutely loved it and thought it was a great idea but they didn't really catch on.
He usually doesn't wear neck brace when it's muddy, but it wasn't that muddy... I guess next races will tell us whether he ditched it or not
He didn’t wear it in the qualifying race either.
LOL
I know Musquin quit wearing it when he got a new helmet that interfered with the brace, not sure if he is wearing a different Fox helmet than normal?
I guess I should try a new one and see. However, I'm thinking that if the brace does what it's supposed to in a crash, it is necessarily in the wrong place for me to be able to ride in it.
I wear the Atlas Air and feel naked without it. I don't even notice it while riding anymore.
i loved the first gen leatt brace. i thought it was comfy and i rode fine.
