Some very sad news, apparently an 11 year old was killed during yesterday's open practice at Dade City. All over the news here... Evidently he crashed on a jump, was ok, but was landed on. Was airlifted to a local hospital but unfortunately did not survive. RIP, condolences to the family.
Damn, that's gonna be savage for all involved 😞
Nothing you can say at a time like this.
Oh man. Prayers for that family.
Absolutely devastating. None involved will ever be the same.
This is awful. Prayers sent...... Lord be with all involved.

Prayers for the family and everyone involved.
Hate hearing this....it's bad enough when any rider dies, but kids are especially difficult to take.
Feel so bad for everyone involved
Gutted to hear this and see it in the news. I still have vivid memories of being there one night when another kid around my age died back in the mid-90’s. Just eerily quiet after Randy shut things down and everyone packed their stuff up. RIP little dude. Prayers to the family and all involved.
Saw this going around-

So sad. I’ll keep all involved in my prayers.
My biggest fear as a parent. I got my son involved in a sport that has real consequences. Not some video game that you just start over. This is twice now in a very short time. Prayers to the family, friends, and all first responders. No training prepares you for this type of tragedy. And also the rider that landed on him. That will be with him the rest of his life.

It can happen to anyone who rides, very sad. Thoughts go out to the family and the other rider involved.
Dammit…. Prayers for everyone involved. Hate this so much.
Hate to hear this. Will be thinking of him and his family. Just awful.
Having had a little brother die tragically at about the same age, I can relate. I feel absolutely horrible for what this family is going through right now, but this was preventable.
Tracks need to 85's/150f's and below to have their own practice! Enforce it, ban people that break the rule. This is a problem at pretty much every track I've ever ridden.
I know this will be an unpopular opinion, and will be a little inconvenient to have to wait for your turn to ride... but having 450's at full speed on the same track as kids on 65's is absolutely fucking unacceptable. We need to try harder at preventing this from happening to another family.
This is an AWFUL tragedy regardless of the specifics to the incident…but I’m just curious if it’s know what size bike was involved OR where/what the flaggers were doing when this horrible situation occurred?
I’m ALWAYS concerned about this very scenario and its exactly why competent flaggers are a necessity at a track and a horrific example of why classes should ALWAYS be segregated regardless of how “busy” the track is at any given time…NOTHING pisses me off worse than MX tracks allowing BIG bikes & smaller bikes being intermingled at ANY time during a practice! (Only exceptions being the really fast/experienced super-mini pilots that clears every obstacle easily on their 85’s or Super-minis riding in with the big bikes!) Moto is already risky enough, and I accepted the risk that my son could have been landed on by another rider of his age/bike size, but it absolutely infuriated me when he was on his 50/65 at the local track and they would NOT separate by displacement because they didn’t think it was “busy” enough to justify the effort. A small child/kid down on the backside of jump with 250/450’s launching onto them is the absolute WORST possible scenario! There simply are NO words that could possibly assuage the pain the family must be suffering through in this horror show reality. 😓 🙏
To those of you that do not know, down here, pretty much ever practice is separated by bike size, and big bikes are separated into skill level A/B/C. Dade city is great when it comes to safety. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen.
Such a shame. RIP kid.
I will chime in, first up, condolences to all involved.
There must be more thought put into split practice sessions and jump types, and location on the track.
Over here on the otherside of the world, my local practice track has long been closed, due to many bad accidents and a couple of tragidies.
The track evolved over the decades from a natural sand track in the trees, into a full blown, semi hard pack, pro layout jump infested track, a bad design which lead to its own demise.
There are only losers from the incompetent management.
Rest in Peace young man. Prayers for your family and friends. This is just gut wrenching to me as I've had something happen a lot like this where a youngster close to the same age lost his life right in front of me when he was landed on. Was a friend's kid that I hadn't seen in ages and was great to see the family again. Until the accident happened about an hour later. It still haunts me to this day and it was more than 12 years ago it happened. I swear I just hugged my kids and cried for days afterwards. Truthfully, it wasn't really due to negligence at all. My buddy and I decided it was best to slow down over this blind jump rather than just send it down the hill with all the younger slower traffic there that day. My buddy literally didn't even get a foot of air and came down bottom of the frame on the kid's helmet that just tipped over in the wrong spot. He would trade anything to have that moment back. I was right behind him to his left a bit and watched it all unfold. If we would have hit that blind jump like normal we would have flown right over him laying there. I remember sitting on that hillside waiting for the ambulance to get there that seemed like forever. The whole time the kid was just snoring like he was sleeping, sadly he never woke up. I remember getting the call that he passed away. it's like my heartt stopped beating and time stood still. I just couldn't believe that it happened and he was gone. Like I said, I still have dreams about it and it still haunts me to this day. I'm 47 years old and have seen lots of tragedy/heartache in my life, but to lose someone so young just stabs my heart. Godspeed and hope the heavens are as glorious as you've ever imagined young man.
For those who have commented on bike bikes practicing with little bikes and flaggers concerns, this track doesn't do that. This track is probably the safest track to ride on on any organized practice day. Having ridden there for better than thirty five years, I have confidence in they're flag crew. Lot's of tracks don't have enough flaggers any longer on practice days if any, why is that? Good luck answering that nowadays. Most tracks offer a decent days pay for waving a flag once in awhile in the baking Florida sun.
Nothing sucks more than a rider, any rider loosing they're life riding, especially little people. My heart aches for all involved and those in attendance that day. I'm glad the threat of rain kept me home Sunday as I was thinking of going. But I know in the future I'll be back there riding honoring that little guy and his family.
P.S. big bike should never be on a track with little bikes, especially when there's not enough flaggers present.
