What a clown take. JCoop was our strongest rider when we won Red Bud MXdN. Yeah he should have just blown off his wedding.
Thanks for the update. I don’t like getting into riders personal lives but their off track relationships shouldn’t take away from their racing and if it does it makes you wonder. If JCoop renews his wedding vows to miss the des nations this year i may continue thinking he just doesn’t want to go. It’s ok to say no to a race but i was surprised the wedding took priority if there wasn’t any ulterior motive.
I didn’t know about the date change. Riders go almost year round so it is hard to find a weekend off but I would think they could just postpone the wedding. I am forgetting all it takes for some people to plan a wedding since mine were small but i just started feeling like people are looking for excuses not to go maybe fearing to get hurt, not caring if we win, or losing to Guam. Once Tomac gets better it would be good to see him back on the team.
Technically this is gay pride week so it would be kind of funny seeing a rider holding a rainbow flag on the podium “Not that there is anything wrong with that” like Seinfeld would say.

A guy scheduled his wedding around an exhibition race. They plan a wedding that costs more to put on than half the people on here's net worth, pick a date that gives him most possible time to prep for the following season, the race changes dates, and clowns get on here saying he must not be that into racing and it should take precedent. Lot of dumb shit gets said on here but this is pretty high on the list.

I see a bunch of clowns, I hope that’s not an international conference of judges voting and hoping people with the US flag show up at Hangtown waving the proud banner instead of at the world’s most prestigious winner take all race. We cared when the world came to Red Bud and I didn’t hear about any weddings until after we won the race. Pastrana proposed right at the bottom of the Mega ramp and look at him and the Mrs. 2 happy kids later. It should just be a Nitro circus thank you.
I guess I was the only one left in the world who didn’t get the memo about the date change unless a guy from siberia missed it too but i thought it would be a decent question to ask what door to choose a or b with some riders careers on the line? It didn’t seem to matter that JCoop missed the des Nations but I could picture someone else missing an opportunity if racing is their career and they don’t choose that first especially if not injured and at the top of the game. If a rider refuses there’s always someone else ready to step in and say yes. Sometimes it’s either show up or no show. There may have been an injury we didn’t know about either like if his foot wasn’t healed yet.
JCoop finished 4th OVERALL in the 2nd moto of MXdN 2022.
I would absolutely be calling him.
That’s why i was so disappointed he didn’t go back. Was he the one that crashed with Ando at the start? 1 representation doesn’t make America like me proud if he wants to miss without an injury. If he really plans on spending the rest of his life with someone I figure they could work something out for a world class athlete but he doesn’t have the rest of his life for team America unless he’s John Dowd. Like the Lawrence’s say they may only have 10 years of racing but are brothers forever. If this was the Olympics it would make front page headlines if a gymnast decided to get married instead of kicking the rest of the world’s ass if she could like Simone Biles just got married in 2023. People who manage restaurants work around their schedules to get married. It’s not a good message to the fans and I am not as big of a one now because of it. All you other Don Juan’s can tell me how cute it is but most people in the top 20 would be looking to take a spot at the farm without wedding pics and a trophy for the mantle.
Do most of the other countries consider it to be only an exhibition race? To a lot of places isn’t that their best chance to show the world their talent and go for Olympic gold? Do riders from other places turn down the chance with other plans? I don’t know about Mx but a lot of players would get shamed if they had other plans for a single international race to show who’s best. It’s not the King of Bercy. Maybe the USA feels we have deeper talent to win anyway but I hear people talk about “B” riders or guys just not ready for the pressure or who can holeshot against Jett and Hunter who wouldn’t say no. Sadly the world probably doesn’t matter anymore and people are just scared of Covid or losing against Estonia who tries harder and puts their 3 best up for battle.
There are plenty of sports that are played professionally where the best players regularly turn down international competitions including the actual Olympics. It's just odd to me to be mad at Cooper when he made at least some effort in his planning to be there and it didn't work out while many others had no actual reason at all and turned it down.
I didn’t hear about him making a special effort but you are right there are people who straight up turn down a chance to go not giving any excuse at all. There shouldn’t be a right to refuse clause…with all the rules that teams make about what riders can and cannot do you would think it would be mandatory to represent your country if selected on 1 weekend and the world usually pays to see us. There was one year no one wanted to go and that’s just selfish and disrespectful to the teams that work hard to challenge. Not going to not lose is lame.
I think a lot of people want to go but incentives lined up the way they are make it tricky. Teams seem to mostly discourage it.
I said last year that I wish the media would start asking about this stuff now instead of waiting until the last minute. Get them on record. Would love to see every team manager asked this weekend "will you commit to mxon if your rider is selected?"
There's really only been one team that has consistently answered yes to that question.
Yes i have heard it’s last minute and not just the riders saying no. Even if we go it’s low budget and doesn't get big sponsorship. But then everyone expects us to send the top 3 racers as if we are ready to win as the best in the world.
