widening spark plug thread instead of fixing thread?

hi,

anybody knows what would happen if i put a 12mm wide spark plug instead of a 10mm, the thing is its an old bike and the head has been fixed before for that same matter with a welder, but it didnt last long the thread striped out very quick!
