I keep blowing my seals and getting oil on the rotor. I have been using brake parts cleaner to clean my fork slider tubes and to clean the rotor too but it seems like it hurts my stopping power. I have heard that ether actually dries cleaner than break parts cleaner.

has anyone found the best way to clean the rotor?

^ I was about to ask this. It doesn't matter how clean your rotor is if your pads are contaminated with oil.

You can sand the pads down with sandpaper on a flat surface.

I clean the front pads by rubbing them face down on concrete with hot water and degreaser or dawn. It's not as good as new pads, but cleans them up to 90%. Pads are porous so there will be some oil that's embedded.
Heat, sand, and alcohol will also help the cleaning process. The hot scrub gets them started.
