Woods Gearing Suggestions For 350sxf?

Looking for suggestions before I pull the trigger on new chain and sprockets for my 16' 350sx-f. Stock chain and sprockets have 40hrs on them and are junked (at least the chain). Its stretched to the moon and slaps like crazy at lower RPMs in the woods.

Anyways, looking for gearing to give me more 2nd gear usage. I find myself now always having to shift to 3rd in sections of the woods and constantly shift between 1st and 3rd. I would like 2nd to be my "everywhere" gear except when I am stuck or in slick stuff/hills. I thought of 13/50 like I had on my YZ250. It took a lot off the top end of the bike but made 2nd a main gear for slower type stuff and still gave me a solid run in straights.

I was thinking of a primary drive x ring gold chain and renthal front rear sprockets. Any other suggestions? I had the same stuff on my YZ250 and it seemed to work well for 3 rides till I sold it. Thanks.

What gearing is on your bike now? Going down 1 or 2 teeth in the rear will make your 2nd gear longer

I dont really want speed. I want more luggability if that makes sense. Like make 2nd a cruising gear instead.

The bike is gonna ride way different then that yz you had. I have 2 buddies that ride the exact same bike with stock gearing. If anything they went up a tooth in the back to make the gears shorter. When I ride woods Im always shifting unless its super tight single tack.

Going 13 on the front will cause excess chain wear due to the tighter radius of the chain path.
If I were you, I would suggest that you get the bike geared for 3rd gear as the bike has the rpms to ride it there from slow speeds to fast speeds. This bike has a long 3rd gear, much longer than second gear.

Well what ratio would you recommend then for 3rd gear? I just want to be able to ride the bike through slower stuff and faster stuff in the same gear or without having to shift up and down as much. It also slows me way down. I like to go into corners with speed and carry it out but the way its set now if i do that i lose all the power and i have to shift back down.

14/53 would be my best guess. Your current ratio is 3.57 using the 14/50 and your new ratio would be 3.78.
Going up by three teeth on the rear is almost like going 1 tooth less on the front.

Your stated desired gearing of 13/50 yields a ratio of 3.84.
A 14/54 would yield a ration of 3.85.
I feel both of those may be too low of a gear, but you seem to know what you are looking for so maybe the 14/54 is for you.

thanks for the suggestion. renthal does not make a 54 rear for my bike in renthal aluminum sprockets. I was also thinking about 14/51? making 3rd a main gear and 2nd like a "lug" type gear?

I’m running 14/52 on my 19 350 and I use 3rd gear for almost anything. I’d try that. TLD Factory 250f run the 14/52 as well.

I sent you a PM. I put a 51 tooth on my 350 and it seemed really good. It was a orange Renthal 51 tooth. I can make you a good deal on it. It only has 3 hours of use

14/52 is my woods gearing same bike. In tight single track I’m in 2nd and when it opens just a little or into atv width trails it’s all 3rd

Also nice to have a 52 rear to try out on some tighter Moto tracks
