I've been out of the racing scene for a while and I'm just starting to ride again on a semi regular basis. I have been running Rotella T (I believe 15W-40). I have an 09 CRF450R.
I'm going to be switching to t6 also. That's what I have been running in my diesel with lots of luck. If it's good enough to for an expensive engine like that it's good enough for a bike.
I've been using rotella t in my 2 strokes for a few years now, it's MA & JASO certified, that means ok for wet clutch, works great & can be purchased in 2.5 gal containers from several auto stores at a much lower cost than motorcycle specific oils. I"ve alternated between expensive motorcycle oils & rotella & cannot feel the difference. Have used rotella t6 in my 4 strokes, same thing, works great, cannot tell any difference from the expensive motorcycle specific oils. I change my oil every 2 hrs of operation on all my bikes regardless of oil brand....1 vote for rotella...
I my split chamber hondas I've always ran Honda hp4m on the engine side and gn4 in the transmission side. If you can get it locally that's what I'd recommend. It's good stuff. Just never run hp4m in the trans side, your clutch will slip
I think the T6 full syn only comes in 5W-40. The T4 15W-40 and the T6 full syn are rated for wet clutches. The T6 multi-vehicle, T5 syn-blend, T5 ultra, T4 10W-30 are not rated for wet clutch performance.
That being said, if you change your oil very frequently, like every 2 hours as mentioned above, using diesel oil is probably the best choice for you. If you only want to change it every 10 hours or so, most high performance motorcycle specific oils meeting JASO MA2 standards hold up for that length of time and then some.
I use Rotella T4. Not sure which viscosity, as I just switched over to it. I was running the normal Rotella Triple in 15w40, but I am having issues finding it now. Anyone else?
The Rotella white jug 10-30 I've been using in my bikes for almost 4 years. Most recently in the 2016 KTM Factory edition 250. 50 hours on all stock parts and not even a valve adjustment. Just had the engine rebuilt from top to bottom and the builder said just keep doing what I'm doing, everything internally looked great.
15-40 in the 125 and also in my sprinter van. Hahhaha works out well. I haven't had a hard time finding it, usually at Orielys Auto Parts here in California.
