Vintage RM125 interchangeable parts

1/29/2020 8:04am
I'm starting to restore two 1989 Suzuki RM125s and I'm missing some parts for another one.
I need new transmssion and wheels.

In pictures 1988 transmission looks identical to 1989 but part numbers don't match. Does anyone know are gears interchangeable?
I'm also looking for wheels. If I understood correctly, wheels fit until 1996? What about newer ones, are they interchangeable with correct spacers?

Not sure, but 1989 was pretty much a complete redesign from 1988, engine included.
They used pretty much the same design with minor changes from 89' to 92', with a body/frame redesign from 93' to 95', so I would be looking at those years for part number interchangeability. If they didn't change the case part numbers, chances are the transmission will work, but lookout for changing gear ratios.

I did some more crosschecking about tranny gears and it seems that only difference between -88 and -89/-91 is 2nd gear ratio, quite a bit longer in -88. I may have correct 2nd gear so it might not be an issue to use -88 transmission.
Also some part numbers differs on driveshaft side but tooth count matches:

countershaft
#2 NT16 (2nd gear) OK
#5 NT20 (6th gear) OK
#3 NT16/20 (3rd/4th) OK

#10 NT22 (2nd gear) NOK (NT28) different part number, different tooth count
#14 NT19 (6th gear) MAYBE (NT19) different part number
#11 NT23 (3rd gear) OK (NT19)
#12 NT24 (4th gear) MAYBE (NT24) different part number
#13 NT20 (5th gear) MAYBE (NT20) different part number
