Wondering if it would be a bad idea to vapor blast the outside of the motor as a whole. I want to get some plugs for the intake and exhaust and send it off. Usually i only do this on a full rebuild but my bike doesnt need it and i need to get my winter teardown done

I had this done to all the aluminum cases and covers on a 74 RD350 that I rebuilt a few years ago. The entire engine was apart though.

I don't think you'd want to run the risk of glass beads and water passing whatever you use to seal the intake and exhaust. It's just not worth the risk.

Even after vapor blasting, I didn't like the finish. I used some scotch brite balls that fit a die grinder arbor and went over everything. Work it all in the same direction, and you end up with a mix of grain and polish, similar to what you see the factory guys doing now. You can do this on the cheap without the risk.
