Two Stroke Filter Cage on 4 Stroke KTM

Read some posts here who make a Two Stroke Filter Cage modification on their 250 and 350SXF .
Can anybody explain why ,
and for what is the metal wire screen on the 4 Stroke Cage ?

The idea behind it is to improve airflow...the mesh wire screen is there to prevent your filter from catching fire in case of a backfire...

It breathes better, as Paul_P said above. Use a filter that is flame resistant, or filter oil that is, in case of backfire. The difference is noticeable, if you open up your airbox to breathe a bit better.

Just for a piece of mind, I always install the 2 stroke cage on my four strokes. Always use the same filters and oil, no problem with fire. (Knock on wood)

I did this as well. doing it on my 2020 kx250 right now, unfortunately the kawi cage is blended into the plastic and would leave rough edges or potentially flake off if dremmeling it out so had to order a diff cage.

Installing a 2-strk cage didn't make any difference to my 2013 350SXF

Me too! The OEM 2 stroke cage is cheap and IMO you do pick up a little responsiveness. The no toil kit with the fire retardant air filter is actually a good deal but never have ran it
