Two 96 CR250 KYB rear shocks, one has something the other doesn’t

Edited Date/Time 2/7/2018 7:28pm
Picked up a 96 CR250 with a blown rear KYB; came with an extra shock off another 96 CR250. (supposedly; however neither holds air).. While trying to decide which one I wanted to rebuild, I noticed tonight that the shock on the bike has that Allen head bolt at the top of the shock body, the other does not. What’s up????

The 96 shock was the only year of the steel framed CRs that has separate adjustable High and Low speed adjustments; so besides the Allen bolt, they look identical.

Someone added the Allen bolt to help bleed the shock when it was serviced at some point.

Just the man I hoped would see this. Thanks Slip. I suppose that's the shock I'll tear into for the rebuild then.. Perhaps the peening has already been ground off. This will be my first time cutting my teeth on a shock rebuild; so I may need to consult your expertise again. I think I have enough videos and step by step instructions to get'er done, so I'll only reach out for some advice if I really need it. Thanks again dude

No worries, let me know if I can help. That shock isn't really very much different than the current 46mm KYB on the yz 2-strokes so most YouTube videos will be relevant to your shock.

was it 95 or 96 when the 125 had one brand and the 250 the other?
