Im trying to get new tires, i race in the new England so ive got really diverse terrain. I know I want a medium compound tire in rear but what should I run up front if it matters/makes a difference.

The tires are the Starcross 5 and the front is out of stock in the medium compound.

I prefer a softer tire on the front even when running a medium tire on the back

Soft x20 Bridgestone up front and generally am X30 for the Rocky hard pack of NY. Will run an X20 rear on any track with good dirt.

Starcross 5 soft is a pretty good tire. That being said I really like the new Dunlop MX53.

I always struggled with this when I lived in MA. I also went with a medium rear almost exclusively and would play with soft/medium fronts. Whenever I went soft front (and inevitably ended up riding mixing terrain) I'd end up tearing side knobs prematurely. If life of the tire is your main concern then don't go with the soft IMO. I often went with the soft front because the feel in corners was better for me.
