Swingarm pitting

Unfortunately when I put my bike up for the winter I ended up with some serious pitting. It’s a 2018 YZ450F with about 7 hours so needless to say I’m a little upset. I’ve used aluminum mag cleaner all year to remove black marks and maybe I didn’t clean it off enough before storing? That’s my only theory. Anyone have any tips on cleaning up pit marks WITHOUT polishing the swingarm ?

Scotch Brite pad and WD40. Mag cleaner will pit the arm if not cleaned off 100%.
