Swingarm bearings with no vise

Honestly I would buy a vice now. It will be much easier.

Was thinking of just going and dropping the $60 or whatever at harbor freight for now.

A short length (8") of 1/2" all-thread. Then stack the appropriate sockets/washers/nuts. line it all up with some heat to the swing arm, and crank away.

I would buy a vise. The harbor freight ones arent bad.

The first time i did my bearings i literally couldnt have done it with out one. Oh and grab a mapgas torch too.

Use a few 2Xs screwed to your bench or wall wherever to secure the swingarm, use a heat gun and heat all around the bearing ( only need about 200 degrees ) and tap the bearings out then new in, Map gas burns so hot you could puddle your swingarm in a few seconds, just my $.02

Harbor Freight Ball Joint press works a treat for swingarm bearings........

Put the bearings in the freezer. Heat up the swing arm with a torch and most of the time the bearings will drop right in or just need a little tappy tap.

I have beat them in/out with sockets and a hammer before. Not as easy but it can be done.

They say make due with what you got right? Forgot I had this drill press vise laying around. Left the bearings in the freezer, heated the swing arm, and a correct size socket made this shit a breeze. When I needed leverage I just use a 1/2 inch drive extension over the tiny handle. Made it buttery smooth, hopefully when I get my permanent bench setup I can get a real vise.

You got it sorted, one method I’ve used lots, and it isn’t rocket appliances, is carriage bolts, the square end at the end fits right into sockets 3/8 or 1/2 drive depending on the size of the carriage bolts, keeping things aligned well, it’s really adaptable, and you can throw a few different lengths with the appropriate hardware into your tool box and take with you, works really well, is incredibly cheap, and they are usually pretty easy to find at any hardware store.

Funny enough, I stumbled on it doing the exact same job you just accomplished, and have since used it for just about every bearing to do with the chassis and even some engine bearings

I also gotta ask, what’s your favourite episode, there so many I know, and it’s hard to pick, as there is so many good episodes

So many to pick from. I really like the one where they make their own gas station and have Trevor and Cory go siphon all the gas then frame them for it all. Runner up would be the one where J-Roc gets caught yanking his chain before his concert.

Bahahahahahahaha it could happen to you cuz it happened to me! Your right, too many to choose from, and Ricky talking about the different tastes between high octane and low octane fuels. I think for me, it’s the green bastard episode, watching bubbles get all rowdy was awesome.

I was 13 or 14 when I first watched it. During our last hurricane we never lost power so my oldest brother introduced it to us. I think throughout the time of being cooped up we got to season 6 or 7.

And if you use your credit card to buy the vice, throw your visa in a lake, the banks will never be able to track them then, and while your at it, go to the store and get me some chicken chips and use the change to get as much pepperoni as you can, I need it for munchies as I’m going to the super cats cat show later this afternoon
