A friend of mine has a 17 FC350 he bought off a guy with around 25 hours on it. The bike has been leaking oil since he got it. The shitbag that sold it cleaned it up and never said a word about it to my friend, along with a plethora of other issues he never mentioned. Anyhow, we’ve figured out the leak is coming from the plugs for the oil passages in the right case half. I’ve never seen or even heard of this happening. The plugs on the 350 motor are pressed in, versus the ones on my FX450, which are torx headless screws. They are not available for sale on the parts microfiche. Has anyone experienced this and have a fix for it?

We tried using some JB Weld Steelstik to seal it off after thoroughly cleaning all the oil off and it’s still leaking, even around the JB weld.

The only thing I can think of is to try and remove the plugs, drill/tap and install a headless screw like what’s on my FX450, or have him buy a new case half, which is less than ideal.

Did it have a skid plate on it? Almost looks like it got hit with a rock or something but it could just be a rough casting. maybe try some silicone but you'll probably want to split the cases and fix it correctly if you've determined what the cause of the leak is...

The lower plug looks cocked in its bore. Is it a few drips or steady stream?
edit: Try some of the two tube mix JB weld. The sticks never seem to cure really good.

It is probably the equivalent of a drop every 45 seconds or so. Definitely not enough to end up running the engine dry with a day of riding. Just enough to be annoying and have a dirty engine.

Technically you could have it welded up pretty easily.

That’s a good idea, thanks.
